Ulez and Euro 6
Discussion
Now i have little if no intention of driving into the ULEZ zone.. but a thought did occur to me.... should my 2002 Diesel during its MOY pass the less Nox and PPM requirements could i drive into the zone FOC ( doubtful i realise but you never know)_
I read that the emissions have to be legally checked and an MOT is as legal test could this be argued that my car is compliant
I realise the mantra that it is only as good as the moment it was tested, but it could be likewise argued that a 2 yr 11 month old diesel could be outside the limits as it has never been singularly test but relied on a test engine at the works ( will retract if all cars are tested prior to being registered and taxed and if so do is the MOT equipment used ?)
And a random thought. What would be the legality should i fit a euro 6 engine and all the gubbins into the old girl?

The NOx requirements are from the homologation test on a rolling road.
They don't do this in an MOT so it wouldn't be relevant. You might be able to pay a few grand for a full Euro 6 emissions test and then try and convince TfL to allow it, but your car would not pass EU6 if it's a 2002 diesel.
The MOT Emissions test is very basic compared to EU5, EU6 homologation tests.

I saw a 2009 BMW 535d for sale that was euro 6 registered.
The loophole was it was a Guernsey vehicle, that had been brought into the UK after 2016, so somehow got euro 6 designation.
I also got my 1999 motorbike fitted with a cat, and tested by an authorised testing station to comply with euro 4 nox emission levels. Cost £400, and will pay itself back next month.
However, it seems modifying a car, particularly a diesel to get it to euro 6 standard would be damn expensive, if even possible?
The other loophole is an A reg car or earlier, though again the cost of running a "classic" could soon outweigh ulez savings.
