Coming down the M1 at Luton a red A4 convertible in red got on from the sliproad.

The A4 had totally blurred number plates, as if they had been blurred out in a photograph by photoshop. I assume that this is a coating or film, and without sunglasses on would have appreared normal. It was such a strange sight. Anyone seen plates like this before? It felt like I was in a video game. I was wearing polarised prescription sunglasses and couldn't swap to my normal glasses safely to see if this was the case.

People are obsessed with number plates.

I know not why.

It’s just a number, for f**ks sake.

We have smoked plates for the “I didn’t clean my car properly” look.

We have mis-represented plates for the “ I’m more important than the law, or you, LOOK AT ME!” look.

Now we have “blurred” plates for the “I’m going to drive like a tt and the cameras can’t get my plate” look.

It's just a film that you stick over your plate, stealthplate was one but I'm sure there's loads of brands.

The dark tinted ones annoy me. How do people expect to get away driving with those?

Ah, as expected (from Googling), it's probably not legal.

What surprises me is how few people you see trying to get away with having no numberplates at all. If someone with that dodgy film or otherwise illegal numberplates gets stopped, they will be charged with failing to display a valid number plate. Exactly the same as what would happen if there was no numberplate there at all.

Must have been one of these lenses as I viewed it at an angle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvqeKxCJfGg

They think that by tinting their lights at the same time that nobody will notice.

They live amongst us.

Any security screen reader for a laptop cut to size will have the same effect

Because there's hardly any real coppers interested these days, and even then it's a £60 fine (or whatever it is) and then you have to replace them for a few days.

Was it possibly the protective film you're supposed to remove from a new plate? It has a similar effect.

I came out of work last night and there was a 20 plate white G Wagon with a green front plate on it. I suspect it was the number plate film, but thought it was usually blue? It had a normal plate on it, nothing private etc.
