.. Starting next year in select markets - including UK.

Hmmm ... if they are going to be intrusive (ie. in the middle of shows) that is going to make me reconsider paying for it. At the moment I think it's a good package for the Amazon delivery with the Value Add from the video streaming service, but not if it's full of ads. If they are just at the start of shows, fine.

But I'm not going to pay extra to get rid of them. And I'm certainly not going to pay if they use it to keep making dross like RIngs of Power.

I think the adverts would probably improve it, something to look forward to smile

Yeah, wasn't impressed by that announcement. Annoyingly I suspect we might end up forking out the extra as we do make use of Prime delivery, and I think adverts would just piss us off too much. Would have much rather they went the Netflix route and offered a "lite" subscription with adverts.

What does annoy me more with Amazon is the amount of programmes you have to buy/rent. Worse still if they have a box set with some seasons included and others which you have to pay for. Double annoyed points if you bought the film/box set on DVD (from Amazon) 15 years ago... banghead

I've gone back to freeview, except I bought a bluray\freeview recorder from faceache for £40.

I record everything and fast forward the adverts like we used to do in the good old days!!

I'm telling you it's the way forward!!!!

(also Amazon can fk right off for any more money from me)

Yeah, I don't object to being able to rent/buy stuff but they seem to deliberately mix it in with the free Prime videos. On more than one occasion I've been in the Prime app and thought 'Great -- xxxxxx is on Prime, I must watch it' only to find it was pay to watch when I clicked it.

Given that they already offer a free ad-supported service 'Freevee' which seems to have a strong overlap with Prime (and is also included in the menus while browsing, at least on the AndroidTV app anyway) I have to wonder where this leaves the actual Prime Video service that you get by paying for Prime delivery? Just more confusion and annoyed customers.

And they have a poor record of successful big-budget TV show making - Most of their best stuff is existing shows/movies that they've bought screening rights to, to show on Prime. I wasn't thrilled to see them waste so much on making LoTR:The Rings of Prime so I don't particularly feel like coughing up more money just to get rid of ads on something I already pay for.

Amazon don't have enough decent content to make me want to pay the extra so I'll happily put up with ads. I'm happy paying the subscription as I use Amazon a lot for purchases and Prime is like a bonus tbh.

It really does seem like a very tacky thing to do though, we all know Amazon don't make the majority of their money from Prime and they're not exactly short of funds with the amount they've spent on their programming, so I do find it grating they're shoving ads in yet another of their media sources.

Isn’t that effectively what they are doing? Only Netflix implemented price rises first whereas Amazon are changing the normal to lite and adding the ad free on top? Different methods to get to the same destination.

With the second part surely having stuff available to buy or rent if someone chooses is better than removing/not presenting it at all?
