Selling Domain names?
Discussion
Holy thread resurrection.
I seemed to have hoarded some domains that loosely meant something to me when I bought them. They were mostly bought through GoDaddy so I put some of them for sale on Afternic (part of the same co.) back in August 2022 and forgot about them.
14th May I got an email saying a (.com) domain had sold for $3000 (buy-it-now style). Buyer had already paid, domain transferred and I would soon get a bank transfer - and I did on 16th. It looked almost a dodgy email.
There was a chunky fee to pay ($900!) and smaller fees for US/UK transfers and exchanges etc. I got £1521.98 in my account. I went straight out and bought the .co.uk and .net (obviously the buyer could have done the same, but the holding page does seem to be a UK business).
This was a 6-character .com and although not a real word, is an increasingly common, down-with-the-kids misspelling of a word and reads as one.
Worth sticking any old domains up for sale as you never know - even if it takes a while.

Nice!
I still find it strangely addictive. A 5-minute flash-in-the-pan idea often ends up with me buying more domains. Others I would like to do something with one day!
I bought a 'nice' domain for work. Time is a great negotiating tool if you're not desperate. If the site is for sale through an intermediary, I'll send a lowball offer. Usually they'll respond promptly, I'll stick to my offer and then I'll be on a list for a reminder after 6 months or so, rinse and repeat. The one for work I first enquired in 2022 and bought early this year - for my original offer. Asking was 5 figures and I paid £1500. It's a decent domain so I think most people are scared by the chunky asking prices.
All with the caveat that as much as I love a haggle, I've sold ONE domain and bought ... quite a few!
