Hi all, does anyone know if the Irish police enforce speeding fines ticketed in Eire, for a UK licence holder living in the UK.

Yes they do, if you pay the fine (usually €80) and dont send your licence in (option for non eu licence) then that will be it sorted, they wont chase it to endorse the licence.

If you dont pay the fine they will pursue it through uk courts at a significantly higher cost.

I live on the border with a uk licence and may have some experience lol.

Eire?

Which part of the UK do you live in?

I have three speeding fines outstanding in Ireland but live on the mainland. Never heard a thing. I have heard it's different for those living in Northern Ireland.

I don't think so but they will set up a ghost licence for your points

"Penalty points also apply to drivers with foreign driving licences driving in Ireland. If someone is driving in Ireland on a foreign licence, a record will be created for penalty points. If the driver accumulates 12 penalty points in a 3-year period they are disqualified from driving in Ireland."

Bit more info would be good
Have you actually received a NIP?
Your car or a hire car?
Police stop or a camera?

Just do as I said, I've had several fines for speeding in Eire and you just pay the fine and tick non eu licence and its done. Works out at £50.
Or option 2 ignore it and they will instruct an english solicitor or debt collectors to get it for them.

If you’re from the mainland UK then due to Brexst the fine can not be enforced in the UK courts and debt collectors have zero power to enforce the debt.
Ask me how I know.

The general rule is that penalty points and endorsements on driving licences received in other countries, including EU/EEA member states, do not transfer between states.

However, this is not the case with driving disqualifications for specified offences between Ireland and the UK, including Northern Ireland.

The U.K./ROI have a Mutual recognition agreement

Offences to which this applies:

Reckless or dangerous driving.
Failure to meet the obligations placed on drivers after being involved in road collisions.
Driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
Refusal to submit to alcohol and drug tests.
Driving a vehicle faster than the permitted speed.
Driving a vehicle whilst disqualified.
Other conduct constituting an offence for which a driving disqualification has been imposed by the state of offence:
of a duration of 6 months or more or
of a duration of less than six months where this has been agreed between the Contracting States.

Therefore if you are banned in one state you will be banned in the other

Totting up points disqualification does not apply

There is no mutual recognition of penalty points between the jurisdictions, so the UK court cannot take into account Irish penalty points, for totting up purposes.

Therefore, if you are a UK licence holder, any penalty points from offences in Ireland will not show on your UK licence but will be recorded by the Irish equivalent of the DVLA (National Driver Licence Service (NDLS) against your “ghost” licence.

Fines are enforceable in the U.K.
