Hi, I've just had this letter drop through the postbox, it's for a supposed infraction in Italy from October last year.

I'm not sure who was driving at the time (don't know if that matters in italy).

I had a payment taken from my card out of the blue in April this year for €40 by the hire company which I guess was their admin fee for forwarding on my details?

I've had a google and it looks legit and they have 365 days to send the letter but also read that if the car is a hybrid then it's exempt from some limited traffic areas.

Just wondering what the best course of action is, if I don't pay will they jack up the charges or send bailiffs?

It's not for speeding.

I had similar a few years ago and they sent a few letters through which I ignored, eventually they gave up. I’m a fairly regular visitor to Italy and have had no issues since.

As someone who is half Calabrese and half Napolitano I found that quite funny.

I just googled Calabrese. This thread just got surreal!

Why did you block out the Swift/IBAN details? Are you afraid someone might pay the fine for you?

As it's Italian, how about offering 50 euros to the Head of Polizia instead?

I do like the half cabbage half ice-cream idea though. Just as people who come from Alsace are all dogs... spin

I've had a think about it and will likely pay the fine minus the €40 fee that the hire car company has already charged me as I do intend on going to Italy again and don't want to be flagged.

I'm going to use google translate to ask for proof and see what they come back with, I'm pretty sure the other half is responsible for us venturing into that place but she won't be prepared to pay anything towards it.

Just redacting bank details out of habit, wouldn't put it past someone paying a token amount.

I tried a search but it brought up pre brexit threads, was hoping something may have changed since then or there was a definitive answer.
