Just an update on my success.
To remove the binnacle, remove the black microphone cover mentioned above and also the cover for the very small lamp at the front near the windscreen.
That gave access to two screws, removing them frees the binnacle.
I tapped into the orange feed wire for one of the downlights and for the earth, there are a couple of nuts holding the small radio aeriel part, which I attached to.
The live feed goes off 60 seconds after the car is locked.
It works just fine and there is only a very short section of cable visible, so I'm very pleased with the installation.
