2006 V8 Vantage - wing strake removal

OK, stupid question time! How do you remove the nut nearest the door that holds the grill to the wing strake? I've just spent about three hours doing just that and ended up rotating the grill to get at the nut. The stud at the front wouldn't budge so the strake couldn't be moved that much. or removed.
Now I've got it out (finally) I have used two nuts to remove the stud at the front and will run a tap down the hole to make it easier to fit when it comes to replacing it, but other than removing the wing you either need the patience of a saint or incredibly small hands to get to the end nut that holds the grill in place on the strake.
Or is there a shortcut that I'm missing? Do tell!
I've had to remove it to do some paintwork on the wing around the strake where it was fitted before the paint hardened and the paint was damaged (not by me I hasten to add).
