Anyone on here got a Dakar and had bother with the brakes squealing? Done 1200 miles in mine now and the brakes are squealing still!

Apply a line of toothpaste from the inner edge to outer edge. The paste will reduce the vibration which causes the squealing.

Though if you have PCCB’s, you’ll need to use Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitive Pro Relief, both however take time to work, and you’ll need to apply it after every drive or at the very minimum, morning and night.
If the squealing is really bad, use Colgate Sensitive Instant Relief.

Also make sure you floss all the brake disc holes.

why would he need toothpaste if they're already squeaky clean

(is this the moment someone went too far?)

Forget toothpaste, just apply a little oil* or fairy liquid to the disc surfaces, an excellent means of stopping squeaks.

* yes obviously not serious…

It's the sand in them ... a good jet-wash should do it. Or ask your sales person ?

They are bound to be able to find the answer ...

(Can you imagine sand in carbon discs ??)

Just to clarify

Oil - not serious
Fairy Liquid - not commented upon...

I guess Fairy Liquid keeps your hands nice and soft too....

readit See my comments above smile

A lot of you don't seem to be taking this seriously, we're desperately trying to get to the root of the problem for the OP here.
And to crown it all, some of your are suggesting using oil ...

Pad options ??

If no PCCB's Porsche must have considered this ... have fun finding out, it may just be that you are the first to ask the question ...

At 1200 miles I'm guessing you've been driving it gently whilst running it in ?
If so, the pads will most likely have glazed slightly, so try some heavier braking from higher speeds, I'd do 4-5 stops from 70-80mph down to 20-30 and see if that stops the squeal.

Nope, no running in required. Have driven it hard actually and had plenty of high speed stops in it which didn’t make much of a difference.

Yes and have had a 992 4s and Turbo s (with ceramics) and never had an issue. Not sure if Porsce are using a different brake pad compound on this car ?

Ah you see.... you thought I was joking, then again it did occur to me that an owner of a Dakar probably doesn't need to consider life-hack solutions of toothpaste to cure brake squeal.

Have never heard the toothpaste thing, but have already stripped the brakes and applied anti seize to the pad backing with limited success. was hoping someone else on here who has one would let me know if this is just there thing, or if someone know if they use a different compound on the Dakar?

Hi folks,

Apologies for hijacking this post, I don't seem to have the "start a new thread" button on my profile.

I wanted to ask, as I've been offered a Dakar build slot in December, what are folks honest opinion of the car, apart from the brakes issue of course?

Many thanks,
C.
