Well, I have been given some time to assess my situation at work. Meaning that the one weeks vacation I was taking to go surfing has been turned into a few more, and a nice letter from the MD asking me if I would like to consider my role within the company.

This will mean that someone else will have to look after the joke thread for me for a couple of weeks.

I hope to be back around the end of next week in time to start touting around for a ticket to BTaP (as well as a possible new career). If I dont make it then I hope everyone has a great time, and that Mungo is on form, and the drunken acceptance speeches are taped somehow, and the winner of Mungo's mobile phone does not have a weak heart!

Take care folks, and have a good week or two.

Chris

Whoa, mate!!!

I was in that dubious position a few weeks back. There's a meeting this aft (which means I'll be late for Hairy Pie..) I may have already had myself reassessed. Good luck Fer!!

I hate corporate bullshit. Reassess your position? WTF does that mean? I was told once that my employer considered my position 'untenable'. Sack me if you've got the balls but don't give me all this PC bullshit.

Anyway, sorry to hear that Fer. One door closes etc. Best of luck.

Sorry to hear this, Fer. Hope everything works out and you end up getting your own back while you're away by getting a new job paying twice as much for half the hours.

Fer: what do/did (sorry)/would you like to do? With all the people on PH I'm sure there's someone who might be able to help?

You never know - PH might be your saviour!

I was made redundant 2 weeks ago now, and am quite enjoying the time off. Looking for a new job can be good too it opens up new doors and is kind of exciting thing about all the possibilites of new opportunites
Anyway best of luck

A practice manager at a CRM consultancy. Boring ain't it, and not much to show for all the hours I put in. I blame whoever started the "Should I jack it all in" thread a few weeks back, because I am seriously considering downsizing and moving to the coast. The only down side would be a longer trip for VW trips.

All I'll say on that front is; downsizing is great if you can afford it.
Moving to the coast, getting out of the rat race is all well and good. But if all it's going to mean is that you end up living in the middle of nowhere, with very little coming in, and a shitty mortgage to pay off you'll suddenly realise that actually the coast is windy, rainy at times, cold at times, everything is shut by 10pm, it's full of tourists when it's nice, the petrol's really expensive, the salt hurts the car, there's nothing to do if the weather's shit, and frankly now you can't afford to move back.....

If you're wealthy and you know it then go. If not please think long and hard about it!!

I have just re-assessed my position after various fruitful (NOT) discussions with my US Manager. However instead of looking for a new job I am taking a year off and enjoying myself for a change.

I am in agreement with PetrolTed with regards to this corporate bullshit and working for someone who emulates the pointy haired boss from Dilbert. If you have ever watched the film Office Space then you will know what I mean

Sorry to butt in on your thread Fer, but I've just had a grown up chat with the place I'm working for and we decided that I should go freelance...

Paid 'till end of year and all holidays etc.

Got myself 4 weeks work starting mid Nov...

Free at last - which way to London?

I seem to manage from Poole and you get all the benefits of sand, sea, windsurfing, empty roads etc. There are places even closer to VW as well !

Good luck with your next job whereever it may be. I hope its more rewarding in all senses.
