It seems every day now i see something in the news about something happening to someone, and they start a go fund me page, do people not bother with insurance anymore, just read about one who set up one to fly someone home for healthcare after an incident abroard, isnt that what travel insurance is for? Surely if you go somewhere knowing the healthcare isnt up to much, you make sure you are covered, or do we all expect others to pick up the tab now.

More to the point, why do idiots give money to them?

Putting aside the scams, I do think there's way too many people that either don't bother with travel insurance and/or believe that the EHIC card covers you for everything wherever you go.

When we had the terrible incident on Friday with the school bus I was pretty surprised that before 5pm a “Go Fund Me” had been set up for the drivers funeral.

Because the entitlement of people these days is beyond belief.

And its a shame because sometimes there are genuinely people who need help, but they just get lost in the mire

I'm always cynical about these. I also always feel guilty for being so cynical. I'm definitely cynical about GoFundMe taking a cut, albeit it only about 3%. They must do very well out of it.

Very true, i knew of a person whos child needed an op that was only avalible in the us, so needed paying for, i did donate to that, but i already knew the family, the kid got the op and is now doing well. So it cn work, im more on about the ones trying it on, and there are plenty, maybe i should try one, well i havnt had a holiday in a while and it would be nice.

American bikers setting one up after they slide down the road annoy me. You live in a country with zero healthcare and then take up a hobby in which an accident can be very bad for your skin and bones and yet don't insure yourself for that is just stupid.

As for funeral costs is that not why we have life insurance too?

Not to mention that his next of kin/nominated person will get a multiplier payout for death-in-service too.

Anti-immigrant immigrant Dan Wooton set up a crowd funder to defend against allegations that he bribed men to get sex videos of men he fancied / wanted to have power over.

Serious allegations from his ex-boyfriend, and others, which he denies.

Despite being rich from a career in populist Murdoch media (New of the World, Sun,) he was looking for £150,000.

His appeal wasn't doing great - but his suspension from GB News for an unrelated matter might galvanise his supporters to stump up some more dosh for him. He has presented himself as a truth-teller that the blob want to silence. Always works.

That could easily be someone unconnected making a quick cash-grab.
