I've recently been brave enough to do the pics for 2 friends weddings. In the first case i was the ONLY photographer (gulp!) and for the second i was taking some more candid shots to compliment the pro they had hired for the day.

In the first case i used my 50mm/f1.4 and i (and more importantly they) were chuffed with the results.

For the second wedding i wanted more flexibility with the shots, so i used my 28-135. However the results were dissapointing, lacking sharpness and contrast despite having a lovely bright sunny day. I was expecting a slight trade off against the 50mm prime, but certainly not such a marked difference ;(

Anyhow, the upshot is that i'm after a better quality walkabout lense. The current favourite is the 24-70 f2.8L. Anyone got experience of this lense? Will it close the gap in quality on the 50mm?

Or the new 24-105L IS

How about putting the 28-135 in for calibration?
I have one and love it, it's my walkabout lens although the new 24-105L IS will replace it at some point.

Yes, i saw the new 24-105. Always too many choices! The F4 put me off a little though, and i've got my 70-200 for the longer stuff.

That probably isn't a bad idea as the quality really isn't what i'd expect even of a farly cheap lense
