It's nearly 30 degrees in September, the Biggin Hill air fare is on, England are playing a world cup qualifier and PHers wnat to watch a musical?
Ive got a suntan,i dont like Airshow traffic jams, call that a world cup Qualifier,,,,been watching PYW while putting my engine stand up in my Lounge
Lee Marvin beats the pants of all that....'Grace!,i give you a boy, give me back a man'.
Each to their own.
I'm actually in the middle of REHEARSING a musical at the moment ("Singin' in the Rain"
. So, not only do I watch musicals, I actually participate in them.
I've been performing in operas and musicals for almost 20 years. For me, they are the equivalent of taking part in a sporting event - there's the adrenaline rush, the appreciation of the crowd (usually), the team spirit of the participants, the reward of doing a good job and, sometimes, the winning of awards. And it keeps me active and resonably fit.
Having said that, I have to admit that "Paint Your Wagon" is not one of my favourites.

Channel 5,,Probably the best Film Musical ever made.
Better even than the Blues Brothers or the Nightmare Before Christmas ? Hmmmm
Ive always thought so,in its time it was massive with a good cast ,Eastwood and Marvin were at the top of their respective trees then and some of the music incl,'Wandering Star',,'Paint your wagon' and 'Mariah' went on to be big hits in the charts.
Jeez where has the time gone?
Nothing wrong with Oklahoma.
It was Oklahoma that transformed the whole basis of musical theatre in the 20th century. Up to Oklahoma, most musicals were still essentially operatic in concept with fairly minimal storylines linked tenuously to the more important musical numbers. Oklahoma is looked on as the first musical where the plots and subplots were equal if not more important to the drama as much as the music. Also, the dialogue is written in the coloquial style of early 20th century Oklahomans and again, that was an innovation, writing a musical with dialogue based on poor, uneducated white folk. In fact, Rogers and Hemmerstein were so concerned about getting the mispronunciations correct, that the script is written phonetically to get the correct word sounds.
I know, because this time last year I was learning the dialogue.
