Where are all the Avon Rangemasters?

Seems they are not currently in production and I can't find anyone with stock.

Anyone know the whereabouts of some in 7.50R16 size?

Thanks - there are a number of different alternatives I've identified.

In an ideal world I'd just buy two Rangemasters to match the good ones I already have ...

What date code is on the ones you already have?
They suit older Land-Rovers being tall and slim, are they for a coil-sprung 'Rover?

No help to the OP’s question, but my Defender was still on its original set of TRs at 80,000 miles, with plenty of tread left! Binned them due to age in the end.

Old enough not to have a date code, and they are starting to crack.

It's for an older Series 3 Land Rover.

Date codes started around the same time that landy was registered, are you saying it's still on its original tyres?

No idea. I've only just bought it ...

At least the ones on the back with date codes are in good condition.

Have you tried Vintage Tyres? They can normally supply period correct tyres for just about any vehicle.

Yes I have. They have no stock, and were the ones to tell me they're currently out of production.

Originally Avon were due to do a production run "start of October" but that has now changed to "start of November" with a low confidence that it will actually happen.

Hence me wanting to try and find someone with stock ...

I went with a new set of General Super All Grips, made a fair improvement to how it drove.

They are my fallback option, but I don't really want to buy 5 tyres if I only need two.

Oh, and improvement in the way they drive is all relative. They start at quite a low level.

Yeah. Mine came with OD, but parabolics and headlights were probably the best additions (and some Moorland tweed Defender seats with headrests which I know aren’t really right).

Presumably this is all caught up in Avon closing down at the end of the year?

Still no tyres available.

"Start of November" became "start of December" which has just become "probably not for a long time because they're closing the Melksham factory where they are manufactured at the end of the year".

It seems there will not be any produced until the moulds are moved to a new site and Avon/Cooper/Goodyear decide to do a run.

I think it's extremely unlikely that they will do that. The moulds and stuff are almost certainly out of the dark ages and not economical in any shape or form to relocate and get back in production!

Isn't that the kind of niche that Vintage Tyres like to step into, mature products that the makers of have lost interest in due to vanishing margins?
