McGurks and Nicholas Mee reviews
Discussion
I'm thinking about going to an independent now my car is 7 years old, and wondering between McGurks and Nicholas Mee. McGurks are much closer to me (about 40 miles) but Nicholas Mee (90 miles) seem to have a very positive set of reviews and give the appearance of being more experienced as cars get older.
Anyone else left the main dealer network to one of them and had a good result? I know about Bamford Rose but the experience seems a bit inconsistent based on feedback here and elsewhere.

I've heard only great things about Nicholas Mee ... apparently the place is well worth a visit. One of the guys at Phoenix AM used to work their and raves about it.
While I've been to an open day at McGurks and found they have some nice cars, I have heard similar tales as mentioned above. I guess it leaves a sour taste but they are only doing their job I suppose.

I bought my car from McGurk 3 years ago. It was an ok rather than great experience but it wouldn’t stop my buying the right car from them again. However seeing the set up there I got the impression that they are more about selling cars than service & repair and you’ll get a standard main dealer type service using AM parts.
I’d opt for Bamford Rose without question. They know these cars inside out and the standard service is head and shoulders above anything else I’ve seen. They test drive prior to the service to determine if there are any issues the owner may not be aware of and do a much more in depth inspection than that specified by the manufacturer. As many have said it can be difficult to get them to answer the phone but in my experience once they have the car communication is absolutely fine.

Had my car serviced only just this week at McGurks, great attention to detail on the service report and a nice friendly bunch of people who work there.
They had some lovely cars in stock to wander about and drool over too, including several classics, and were happy to answer any questions i had about the various cars, even letting me try out some lightweight seats in a V12.
one small gripe is they listed a broken rear tailgate strut but nobody called me to say 'shall we fix it' for such an easy to do job and cheap part, which i found a bit strange. Maybe they didnt have any in stock.

Of the two I'd go with Nicholas Mee. All of his cars are pristine, and it's a lovely place.
My only encounter with McGurk is him trying to offer me sub-30k for a pristine low-mileage DB9 that he would then have sold for about 50-60k.
Yes, I have gone off a few dealers for their arrogant offers it does put you off them for sure.My only encounter with McGurk is him trying to offer me sub-30k for a pristine low-mileage DB9 that he would then have sold for about 50-60k.

Did the same to me earlier in the year. I’ve had a couple of cars off them but I won’t deal them again as they were really taking the piss on price. I don’t begrudge them a profit but offering £60k for a mint low mileage car that they would retail for £90k is a bit greedy. Thanks for the feedback everyone, really appreciate it - and I've learned not to post whilst on a very exciting meeting. I should have been clearer, I'm aiming to get the car serviced and maintained, rather than selling so I'm mainly looking to ensure a good quality service and positive experience. I always thought Cambridge Aston Martin were excellent and whilst I can't complain about Birmingham being poor this year, it wasn't quite the same standard. (Notts will never have my money - hence looking at Independent instead).
Appreciate all the input, really handy to get first hand views

I have purchased 2 Astons from Nic.Mee and sold 3 back to them.
Aston Martin DB4 SS - purchased, renovated and sold back to them
Aston Martin V8 Volante Wide Body Works Special (Vantage body) - Sourced, checked and sold back.
Aston Martin V12 Vantage - sold to them
In all, the experience was silky-smooth, without hassle, drama or surprise.
Neal Garrard - head of sales is a very eloquent, knowledgeable gentleman on all things Aston Martin and their new location is like an Aston Museum to models past and present.
You can argue that they are not the cheapest but then you can argue they are probably one of the best Aston Dealers in the UK - if not the world and they deal with you as a valued customer irrespective of what Aston you are interested in.
If you are in to purchasing a top-condition Aston, its worth a visit.

I’ve bought and serviced cars with Nick Mee. You pay a premium but the service is faultless. I would still use them if I wasn’t too far away now.
No experience with McGurks except one time showing them an offer on a car which they turned down before then putting the car up for auction where it sold for less than my offer. That was annoying.
