Hello,

Could anyone detail the process to build oil pressure prior to a cold start, specific to a glass key v12 vantage manual please.

I’ve watched bamford video and didn’t follow for my specific model.

If anyone could just tell me the steps I’d be grateful 👍

Many thanks

not sure you need to, the V12 is not a dry sumped car whereas the V8 is., might be totally wrong

Sorry if I am telling you what you already know, but reading your post, I am thinking possible confusion with the V8.

The sometimes mentioned non-firing start process, applies to the 2005 to 2018 V8 Vantage.
That engine has a dry sump, so if the car has not been started for a few weeks, the oil gradually drains down into a tank and takes a short time to pump up again.
By pressing the clutch and accelerator pedals fully down, the engine will turn over, building oil pressure, but does not start.

The V12 is a conventional wet sump engine. I don't know whether it is necessary, or whether you can, turn over the engine without it starting.

On many fuel injected cars you can just push the accelerator flat to the floor before cranking. That works on my '11 Virage as well as my Jaguar XKR. Can't confirm on a manual though.

On the Ford ECU V12, pressing the throttle to the floor firmly cuts fuel and spark thereby allowing you to dry crank the motor until oil pressure to build up. The procedure is specified in the manual when bringing the car out of a long sleep (a couple months or more). Works the same for manual or auto.

This procedure DOESN’T work on later cars equipped with the Bosch ECU like the V12 Vantage S for example.

It does work on a V12 Vantage manual. A leap of faith as you push the key in and expect it to explode into life, but it won’t. Just crank it until the oil light goes out.

Ensure the accelerator pedal is firmly 'flat to the floor'.
Just slightly up, and you are on maximum revs with an oil starved engine before you can blink. yikes

Some good advice here. The procedure is listed in the Owners Manual but it is slightly ambiguous regarding the time frame before it is required. I would think that for a period of over two or three months of no use it’s worth doing it. As Jon said, make sure the accelerator pedal is very firmly pressed to the floor though! BRM.
