When I got a message in the Nationwide app the other day telling me things would look a bit different I thought they were finally going to update the crap app. Alas not; they've just rebranded and the logo looks like a poor copy of the old NatWest one. Or Pacman about to eat a Monopoly hotel.

I don't get it; do they think the new logo will somehow win them some new customers? What's the point? It'll no doubt cost a fortune updating all the branches etc as well.

Hahahahaha I saw the notification and haven't bothered checking the app until now. It's definitely pac-man eating a house, and if they're not rolling out icon's for everything online feels very half arsed for now.

Must admit I couldn't even recall what it was before or the brand evolution, so it's was probably failing already in one sense - however interesting it's got a more corporate bank feel when it's been a building society until now.

'A good way to bank' is 'just a bit of a st slogan' too.

Just seen this too. I wonder how much they paid for that rebrand.

"We've modernised our logo" says the website. Why does this always just seem to mean they've removed the capital letter?

Interesting to see a thread on this - I saw it the other day and thought - what are they thinking, must be a millenial behind that but brushed it off as - well, this is just the st way the world is heading now.

I just deleted the message, but have now opened the App.

rofl What a rubbish attempt at a rebrand. Just pay interest to clients is the only branding that they need.

I hope this means they'll also improve on their TV ads. Their spoken word poetry adverts were abysmal.

When it's too hard to fix real stuff, rebrand!

It's probably going to cost many millions but spread-out over the decade+ it'll be expected to last (apparently 30 years since the last rebrand), considering some of those costs would be need to be spent even if it was just to replace signs etc every x years as part of maintenance etc I don't think it's crazy. The headline figure for rebrands is always a bit misleading.

On the whole it's not terrible, feels a bit bland and not exactly groundbreaking so might looked dated a bit early but it's OK.

Except the colours which as others have pointed out make the whole thing look like a knock off Natwest logo - I'm pretty surprised they went ahead with this colourway as it surely would have been flagged especially by those in the banking industry!

I suppose we should be grateful they haven't done something stupid like remove all the vowels and call it "ntnwd"....

The typeface used feels a bit odd to me, not quality financial industry to me but more payday loan level.

And the logo is simplified to oblivion and looks like something else.

And the colours and feel are just Natwest now.

So many businesses go for rebrands but are best leaving alone!

The new logo appears to be implying that the sun's going down on the housing market.

Not fussed on the rebrand, just took me a few seconds to realize what the app was on my phone as it wasn't obvious!

Rebrands never work initially but after a year or two they are familiar and people them moan about changing it. Even the ginormous BMW grilles will become familiar and people will complain when they make them smaller again.

Sounds like time for a new one wink

Rebrands do work. There's lots of reasons to do them, particularly for older, more intricately designed brands, but most of the time they're only talked about when they don't look or feel right, as opposed to most of the time when they do.

The little house is gone to be replaced by an amorphous, meaningless, shape.

They are a "building" society after all.

I've never bought a product because of a logo.
I'm aware companies change logos without detriment....most car manufacturers have done it more than once..... it's when they take it further and change the name I don't get....they build a brand over many years and then change it.
Are Evri doing better now they aren't called Hermes ?
