Biggin Hill Air Fair 2005 - Pictures
Discussion
Great day out at Biggin today. A little hazy, but really warm and not much wind. The flying was pretty varied from classic WWII, modern jets including the Typhoon Eurofighter, to awesome aerobatic displays and a DHL 757.
On Friday I bought myself a new 2GB card and spare battery. So I went a bit mad today and shot around 900 pictures
These are my favourites (binned the rest
)
Enjoy
Found these one's on another card this morning:
of course ctitical opinions are always welcome
cheers

They're all pretty damn good pics. Pitty I wasn't there.
Love the Typhoon/Euro fighter on Re-heat and also the Sally B with 2x P51D's as Escort.
I think they may be the same P51's that fly out of Old Buckenham, Norfolk on a regular basis. The goosbumps are already appearing just thinking about that Merlin noise.
Well done again

Great pics Stuart
What lens / camera do you use?
I was there yesterday with my D70 and learnt a lot
a) bring a stepladder (even right on the barrier was a pain as other aircraft / vehicles get in the way)
b) expose manually (shutter speed was fine, but aperture a bit low in some cases)
c) get a sunshade for my LCD screen as I can't see a thing on it in direct sunlight!
Just sorting through my pics now - I got some good in flight ones I think. Not much on the ground though.

Like the Red Arrows one and the Storch, but I wonder if you're going in a tad too close with some spinners and prop tips being chopped off ? It's odd, I like the rear view of the Spitfire with the prop cropped off but not the first picture of the Mustang "Big Beautiofull Doll" landing which is only missing a tiny bit of the prop !
It used to be the other way round with photos at air shows - lots of small dots against bleached out skies !

I was using a Canon 10D with a 300mm f2.8, plus a 2x converter, giving me 600mm. Borrowed the 300mm for the weekend as I'm thinking of investing in one.
My basic rule for airshows are 1/250 or 1/125 for prop planes and 1/1000 or faster for jets.
My father has a disability badge for the car, so we managed to park against the flight line. Really easy and nice that i could keep my lenses and gear in the boot at arms reach.
Shame it was a bit hazy yesterday, but otherwise it was a top day. I prefer shots of take offs and landing so you get the sense of speed with a background etc.
Look forward to seeing your results

no what you mean there. Having fixed focal of 600mm has it's pros and cons. I'll see if I have a better shot of the Mustang.
My efforts .. first try at airshow photography so have learnt a lot .. these needed lots of cropping and exposure compensation !
(left the heads in to get a bit of motion feeling, but next time, I'm bringing a stepladder!)

I shot a lot of these with a polarising filter on, with hindsight, I think I should have removed it since it robs a bit of light. Is this correct?
