what problems might I encounter, fitting an RS wheel in place of the standard 993 steering wheel?

any tips or advice will be appreciated.

Hi - I tried this on my 993.

The 993 RS wheel wouldn't fit (I had an OPC tech try) - because of the BOS.

I got a great airbag wheel from ajusa.com - which looked and felt great. The ajusa.com wheel is the same as the RUF one only without the label (and the price!).

You will have to get the airbag light reset, unless you are happy for the light to be on the whole time.

You can change the boss to accomodate the RS wheel. The additional advantage of doing this is that you can use an extended boss to bring the wheel closer to the driver.

Hi, just completed this exact mod. Put a 993 RS wheel onto my 993TT - you need to remove the airbag/horn connector from the steering column (2 screws) and will need an adaptor (plastic and brass thingy, hard to describe - can you tell!) that makes the horn connection. Got mine from www.design911.com Looks and feels so much more modern and as a benefit gives lanky git's like me a little more room as it's a 'gnats' smaller. Just shout if I can help. Mr_Jolly

Hmmm,

I would have thought that you can do this, as I bought a 993 RS wheel for my 964, and it was the wrong boss size, turned out it was for the 993 with the 964 having a smaller boss dia.

So I would say its possible, though I know not how.

thanks for the advice so far.

I was thinking of going for the RS wheel from design 911, it specifies that it is for the 993, and says to buy the horn adaptor thing as well - so that seems to fit with the comments so far.

Mr_Jolly, Will the passenger air bag still operate? and what have you done regarding the warning light?

thanks

hi bob,

I'm told, that when I get an OPC to reset the airbag light that the pass one will operate as normal. Should get it done at the weekend so I'll let you know if you want? Cheers, Mr_Jolly
