Having wanted one for 20 years I’m now in the position to buy a second hand DB9. I’ve devoured Grant Neal’s bible and test driven early, late and DB9.2. My ideal specification is a nice 2011 or 2012 DB9 coupe in green with cream interior black dash and ADS.
Do any exist or am I destined to fail and have to compromise?

I suppose I’m more likely to find the colours on an earlier car and would have to upgrade the suspension to achieve the equivalent ride offered by the ADS - Bamford Rose?
Or maybe buy an ubiquitous black grey silver with the right suspension and interior and wrap it.
Thoughts?

Good luck and hope you can find the car that you wish for.

As for wrapping, that is something I would never consider.
There is a wrapped 4.7 Vantage at a garage in Surrey. Must have been on sale for over a year now, cheap as chips, but the last time
that I drove past, it was sitting on the front of their forecourt, covered in dust.
Might suggest that it was a costly mistake.

The theory is that if I or my estate ever wished to sell it the wrap can come off to reveal the original pristine paint. Maybe wink

Exciting times!

My advice is to put the money you would spend on a wrap towards buying the most original DB9 you can find closest to your desired spec.

Sure, take the exhaust fuse out or get the usual decats done, but leave the rest as standard. Wraps and Astons don’t really work.

Good luck in your search!

Hi, good luck with the search.

I wouldn’t discount mail dealer cars with the one year warranty, there have been some relatively reasonably priced cars popping up recently:

What do we mean by wrapped , a colour change or simply PPF ? I don't believe I have ever come across PPF on a DB9 has anyone else ?

Wrapping is the term for a colour change. PPF is different, although very rarely people do get confused. No reason why a DB9 wouldn't have PPF, people put it on all sorts of value of cars they care about, not always brand new stuff.

Correct, I mean as a temporary “whilst in my ownership” change to a colour I prefer over the omnipresent black/grey/silver.

Well yes, I’m looking for the right car specification and colour, just that my choices seem to be not what the mainstream want. There were lots of early DB9s in green and interesting colours but later cars not so much. Nice blue exterior on that Edinburgh car you linked and I’m surprised they offer a Timeless Warranty on such an old car. Food for thought.

Having watched a video of a wrap being applied, it might be likely that of the hundreds of craft knife cuts, quite a few go through the wrap.

If the wrap is later removed, razor cuts might not be a look good. I suppose a full respray would then cover any marks.

Just had a brilliant idea.
If a car colour is not the perfect first choice, then this would be a far lower cost way to solve that problem.

As a 2011 owner, the ADS is brilliant and I prefer the mild-facelift look of the 2011 to the 2013+. Mine is storm black but green was my ideal color. They exist, but you might need to accept a spec that is less than perfect to get into your dream car. Don't worry, theyre worth the wait.

Good to hear! I’m in for the long haul to find the right one.

I came this way 2-3 years ago. Green over cream, convertible, how hard can that be? Well, those classic British colours are virtually impossible to find on a classic British DB9.

The years were passing so eventually I compromised and bought a coupe in Pentland green (which most people think is black). However the interior whilst not cream is Parliament green which looks very nice indeed.

I think that unless you want monochrome over black, you'll need to compromise because your perfect spec, if it exists, isn't on sale.

I hear you ST. You are probably right and in the end a compromise will be needed. For the time being I’ll keep looking for the unobtainable. As long as I don’t have to have monochrome over monochrome and pre 2009 suspension.

If it turns out that way I will pass and get a 1995 Bentley Continental R or something else entirely.

I do want to scratch the DB9 V12 itch though.

Take your DB9 on a trip to a country that believes in having good road surfaces, John.
Your Sports Pack will be perfect then.
France used to be very good. Have they maintained (pun) those high standards?

Anyway you won't have to wait long. There is a knighted, privately educated (Reigate Grammer School, at the local council's expense) man, "It's not Sir, call me Kier", who tells us that he grew up in very humble circumstances in Oxted Surrey (looks awfully affluent when I go there), who is going to fix everything. There will be something that he calls Change, which apparently means anything that is wrong will be put right, including resurfacing every poor condition road throught the UK.

So think carefully, before selling your extra hard suspension.

French and German roads are very far superior to English roads, and right now, Spanish roads are better than both. Right now I’d say Indian roads are probably superior to English roads. I don’t say GB as it’s been a while since I was in Scotland. Infrastructure development and maintenance wise, England is rapidly becoming a 3rd world country when compared to western Europe, and sadly now, even compared to eastern Europe.

Just the litter issue alone in England is shocking. If it weren’t for the weather, French and Spanish folk, when alighting in Dover must think they have must have accidentally crossed the Med, not the channel.

How do I know ? I’ve driven over 30,000km all over France in the last 12 months in a vehicle with infinitely worse suspension and rougher riding than any AM (or indeed any car), and driven back to England and then it’s entire length up to the lakes and back five times via Dover and Portsmouth. I normally hit more potholes before I get to Folkestone then I do when driving the length of France - on practically any road.

John - your sports suspension DB9 would be à completely different animal on the continent, it would absolutely come alive.

2007. I would have preferred it a little later with higher mileage for the same price, but that choice didn't exist (see 'green DB9 compromises' above!)

But importantly, it has better seats over the earlier models. Before buying it I drove a 2005 model for a week or two (kindly loaned by another PHer) and the seats were excruciating; I had backache after 30 mins.

I just spotted a flock of pigs flying past my window.

Yes, Starmer is going to fix everything he says. But surely anyone with a brain larger than an ant would know that's not possible...

I tend to agree. And yet still millions of people want to get in... but they don't have cars...

Who do we blame for the state of UK roads? Government? Green activists? Useless Councils? Maybe all of them frown
