There is a roundabout I use occasionally. Two lanes in and the right hand lane is turn right only.

The left hand lane generally has a long queue of traffic going left or straight on.

Sometimes I go in the right hand lane and go all the way round and half again to skip the queue to go straight on.

Am I bad?

I used to do that every day. Never even occurred to me that it's a problem. It definitely sped up the overall egress from the road (as several of us did it). Being overall more efficient must be a good thing.

Sometimes there’s a motorway where it feels easier to stay in the middle lane for a few miles. Am I bad?

I believe a few years ago, at one particular event, some cars were stopped for inconsiderate driving. The likelihood of being stopped during a normal day would probably be minimal, though if enough cars did it then you'd block up the roundabout and both lanes.

As long as it isn't 200 miles, then you are doing what most other people do.

I was using that example as a metaphor by the way.

Prefer that than ignoring the queue and trying to push in further up and end up blocking the free lane when someone takes exception and refuses to let you in.

Also discussed here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

And other older threads. Basically a dick move.

A while ago, my commute used to involve a roundabout where this was a common occurrence. All the cars who used the correct lane were held up by all the cars that had used the incorrect lane and were going around the roundabout (there were many). There used to be a few road rage incidents too as it was so blatantly obvious what was happening. It wasn't a big roundabout. But some people just do st like this all the time because they're special. Selfish tttery, pure and simple.

Im assuming you are transporting something that is going to save a life or similar, either that or you think you are more important than everyone else.

There’s a roundabout on my way home where people do that - the trouble is, if you’re joining from the 3 o’clock entry, then go around to the 12 o’clock exit, you can’t do anything else as the LH lane is chokka and people in that lane drive mm’s apart and attempt to block the road.

hehe

Which law is potentially being broken?

I tend not to do it but I see others do it and am not bothered.

My sat nav will often direct me off and back on again at slow moving motorway junctions, another dick move imho.

It’s a BMW btw.

No, you're smarter than the average numpty IMHO!

But then I've done that too.
