We're off to France this week and have hired a car. I'm aware that you have to have certain items in the car when driving in France (e.g. reflective jackets etc.), is it likely that we'll find these provided in the car already or will we have to bring our own?

I would have thought the rental company would be legally obliged to provide this given that is the law.

We hired a Nissan Juke in France a couple of years ago, from Budget at Nantes airport. There were quite a few hi viz yellow jackets in it (wrapped in plastic).

Don’t forget if you are a glasses wearer to have a spare pair with you.

I drive to/in France 3 times a year and had never heard of this - it looks like it went the same way as the alcohol test kits

I'd heard of the breathalyser tests being introduced and then dropped but hadn't heard of the glasses thing. I do wear glasses, I only have one pair of regular glasses and one of prescription sunglasses though... Sounds like this may not be an issue any longer but thanks for the heads-up.

Spare specs are a requirement for HGV drivers, and are a sensible thing for all. Bear in mind that DVLA are aware of the need to wear specs so a roadside check could catch you out even in GB!

I always hang on to my 'old' pair when mine need upgrading.
