VW GTD or something else
Discussion
Is the VW Golf GTD the ideal car for the following criteria. Looking at 12-18 months old with budget of £35k max but ideally closer to £30k
50 mile daily commute (25 one way) which is 80% motorway
Looking for something which is just a nice place to sit. Currently in a Seat Ibiza and sat in rush hour traffic in that is not a pleasant experience. The seats are horrendous.
Good MPG isn't a must and have considered petrol options but the diesel seems to make most sense for the commute.
A bit of grunt for easy overtaking and also a bit of fun when on the B roads.
Decent boot space for golf clubs and trolley etc.
Reliable and likely to hold value well.
Or should I stop being sensible and just go for a GTI or M135i

I've a back-catalogue of VAG high performance petrol hatches, but run a GTD at the moment (albeit an older one). Wish I'd discovered it earlier to be honest, and I'm keeping an eye on Mk8s - though they are far less numerous these days.
GTE or full electric involve compromises without home charging.

I have considered getting a home charger and going electric but all the recent bad press has put me off. A hybrid might be a good way to dip my toes in to that segment GTE or full electric involve compromises without home charging.
Pretty much better in every way unless you really need a hatchback

If you are getting a diesel, Ive had both GTD and a CLA220 diesel as company cars.
The mercedes 220 diesel engine felt more powerful and was returning almost 10 mpg more.
A plug in hybrid is a good shout.
Although if you can do home charging, I would just go full electric, you can get a Tesla Model 3.
Despite the hate they get, theyre easily the best EV in this segment.
