Anyone know the current cost to fit a tyre and balance at Halfords or any of the other national places?

I have not found a big National chain who will fit tyres they haven’t supplied.
Always had to go to smaller independent fitters. Cost seems to be about £10.

Anything from £10-15 per wheel.

I had a couple of wheels balanced at our local friendly indie tyre place and was gobsmacked to be given a bill for £18 each plus VAT. I should have been suspicious of the dolly bird who'd appeared on reception - they've never had anyone doing that before.

I noted a recent Google review from someone going ape that they'd charged him £25 for fitting a tyre - compared to me, he got off fairly lightly.

I am confused.

He paid £25 & you paid £21.60 & you are saying he got off lightly?

Generally best to go somewhere where you deal with somebody with dirty hands, and have cash on you!

In response to to the complaint in a Google review, the owner listed out all the steps involved in changing a tyre, costs to the business etc etc. Balancing was just a single part of that so relatively, I paid a completely out of proportion price.

I checked a couple of other places and £7 (inc VAT) for balancing is more normal - and that's exactly what they've charged me in the past.

Sorry!

My bad I missed that you just had them balanced, my mistake, carry on.

At my local independent I pay £10 on a quiet weekday and £15 on Saturdays.

Most chains, if they do it, have charged puncture repair rates so £23-£25.

Had it done now, they charged £15 to fit and balance. However looks like they weren't able to balance properly so wobbles above 65mph!

I had been going to the same place for many years - But as soon as I saw a £20/Corner charge for a tyre swap I went somewhere else. - That's for a standard 18" wheel, 245/40 tyre without TPMS, hardly a difficult job (Compared to some modern hyper low profile stuff)

Then they wanted a £2/Wheel upcharge to fit black wheel weights!

Don't mind paying up to £15 for somewhere with quality staff & equipment.

You apparently have to pay £21.60 for a proper balance. smile At least mine were spot on.
