Intermittent buzzing from tweeter, Mk2 MR 2, any ideas?

Hello folks I have a MK2 MR2 on an L plate with a standard radio cassette, with a seperate toyota cd. This lot plugs into the standard active speaker system, i.e with 2 subs behind the seats.

Now I have an intermittent (though commom) loss of sound from drivers tweeter, and possibly the mid range unit (hard to tell) the sound is replaced with ignition noise (I could live with this) but also a very high pitched buzz, it is so high that you almost can't hear it but you can feel it(resulting in headaches) I have removed the head unit two or three times now and used contact cleaner on the multi plug at the rear but it still continues to go wrong.

has anyone else had this? Is there a quick fix?

Any advice gratefully received.

I had that for a while (other side of the car though).

Then the engine blew!

Best get an engine rebuild.

There are known "issues" with a interference from the Power steering pump with after market stereo’s.

After I changed my head unit I constantly had a high pitch whine, but only when using the cd changer. It was solved in the end by requiring the cd changer and half my blinking car, BUT it's only a interference issue on aftermarket / rewired systems so I don't know if this is what your problem is or may be but thou8ght best to mention...

Worth a quick scan through old IMOC / MR2OC posts I would have thought

Often when people fit after market head units, they botch the wiring because they can't be arsed to go and buy a £13 wiring harness adaptor. Saying that, it can get confusing as autoleads make 3 wiring harnesses for the MKII depending on the age and spec of your stereo system.

Sometimes the Autoleads harnesses are a bit crappy too and have a lot of play in the connectors making bad connection when cornering. Tape up the join with PVC tape or buy a new harness.

The previous owner of my Rev3 had done a "hard-wire" not bothering to use a harness and had only twisted the wires together and then covered with PVC tape thinking it would be fine. Nope. Many loose connections until I got my crimps and crimp tool out. He had also botch the bracketry so the head unit never fitted straight in the console.
