PVTS Tracker Speed Alerts
Discussion
I set up a Speed Alert in the OEM tracker whilst my car is having some warranty work done.
Yesterday it pinged me with an alert. Let's just say if accurate then someone was being quite ambitious.
And that is the question. How accurate are the Speed Alerts?
A. Does it use the car's measured (wheel) speed ,the same information used for the Speedo? Which would be accurate to within a few MPH.
Or,
B. It computes speed from its gps position log? Which could be open to various errors.
Many thanks for any insight.

The location only updates every 30 seconds or so, but I suspect that the speed information is from the car rather than calculated based on those location pings.
Fairly easy to determine once I have the car back, but just wanted to be informed rather than guessing. It's quite a "big number", but not unachievable where it is indicated.

I heard a story about this happening from a very reliable source at the local OPC. Clients car in for diagnostic work / warranty work, appears a technician took it home to ensure it had a good run & to check everything was ok. Tracker alert was set well into 3 figures & by all accounts it pinged on multiple occasions in morning on way back to OPC.
I heard that the technician was dismissed due to this, must admit if it was my car I’d be raging!!
