A word of warning to anyone contemplating using the services of eBay Aston light repairing specialist ramiroz**, based in Alton Hampshire.

I've just had an utterly disappointing experience with him.

I posted my tail lamp to him in August for an expected 1 week-ish turnaround repair.
I was notified of a short delay only after I chased up.

Subsequent inquiries were completely ignored until I got eBay involved in late September but then silence again and eBay aren't interested any more as i'm outwith their 60 day complaint window.

I'm now out not only £200 odd for the repair but another £1400 to get a replacement tail light from Aston.

Intriguingly his subsequent adverts have changed from a "fixed price offer" to an "or best offer" - make of that what you will but do consider your exposure before you entrust any work to this individual.

That's a shame...

I'd had several emails back and forth with John and he seemed very responsive and genuine. I'd never quite got round to sending him my one rear lamp with condensation issues - perhaps just as well....

Small claims court? It'll cost you £80 for up to £1500 or £115 for the full £1600. A court writ arriving in the post might focus his mind wonderfully

maybe dodged a bullet Nigel - perhaps a good opportunity for someone credible on the auto electronics side to start offering the service now. As these cars (and all the others with LED lights for that matter) age its gonna become a growth market for sure !

thanks for that LTP - The skinflint Scotsman in me says don't throw bad money after good (since its probably not his first rodeo !), but then the cantankerous git in me loves the idea of the Debt Collectors chapping on his door so yes - I'm well up for that

That’s a shame. I had my rear lights re sealed by John earlier in the year and had no problems. I dropped them off and collected them from his house. Hope you manage to get it sorted and get your lights back.

Yes, he's 'very responsive and genuine' - until you send him a light to fix. After two repair attempts followed by deafening silence I conclude the man is a cowboy, fit only for quick bodge jobs for dealers so they can shift the metal before the repair fails. He's left my car with a dashboard warning light and dreadful radio reception is due to an earthing issue that I've had confirmed is in the light unit. Quality of work - shocking. The man is simply not competent.

I can now reply to this thread because I've just had a wonderful e-mail from my CC company.

After being in dispute with the man since June over a twice-failed repair, they found in my favour and awarded the price paid plus consequential costs, a total of £558.

I think his ship is sinking. He talks the talk but is a bodger, falls down on every promise and can't do the job. Furthermore, at the outset he asked that the money be paid into 'the wife's old account', so HMRC might be interested too.

On the 19th John messaged to say that the light had been stripped and found to have no damaged LEDs but did have pcb damage.

To compensate for the delay, a discount for the pcb repair was offered and accepted, with a further payment being made.

Much to my relief my tail light assembly was returned to me on the 30th October.

Refitting it yesterday, much to my delight all was now found to be functional.

In the spirit of “alls well that ends well” I must in all honesty admit that, should/when the same issue arise with the opposite taillight, I would undoubtedly give John the first opportunity to repair it, albeit with a significantly more generous expectation of timing on my part.

All things considered, the currently available options are still less appealing !

Your opening post was on 20th...! But anyway, I hope your light stays working properly. After two of his repairs I'm left with a 'check brake light' warning on each start-up and radio reception that disappears under static whenever the light is used.

Your Aston was off the road for 2-3 months because he CBA to fix it any sooner. That wouldn't have me rushing back for more, not least because my car is my only car so I'm not going to be stuck at home for three months while monkeyman puts all the trade jobs in front of mine.

There is another repairer on eBay if you want an alternative: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304057287263
