Hi guys,

We have 2 cars. One insured with Sheila's wheels. The other esure (same group).

I have received a letter saying my renewal payment failed for one, an email for the other.

Log onto account. “Payment unavailable please call”. Phone Sheila’s. Recorded “high volume pleas use web”, it auto hangs up. Phone esure, lasted 1hr 30 mins gave up. Googled, latest reviews show no- one cal talk to them for either renewals or claims.

2 questions:

1 - are they fked?

2 - if they’ve auto renewed but “I have not paid” (imo they were not a shoe in to auto renew, not due for a couple of days yet)..

will non payment affect me? Credit? “Insurance cancelled”? I am happy to go buy insurance from someone else but both arms of the company word it “if you don’t want to renew you need to tell us” which is obviously impossible because they don’t answer the phone.and there are no options other than “view” on their online portal….

Anyways, I now don’t want to insure with them: if I can’t phone to pay, then I wonder what the claims line is like. Current (recent) reviews imply it’s not pretty!!

Even insurance companies have limited response on a weekend. Have you really left it until only a few days to renew to consider swapping? You need a quote with weeks to go to get a reasonable quote. I've had similar experience trying to cancel though, it seems you have to directly communicate with an insurance company to stop or cancel a renewal, a legal nicety perhaps? scratchchin

Do you not have an online account that you can use their chatbot to cancel the renewal?

Ring them on Monday if you’ve a couple of days till renewal date. Forget about it till then - it’ll only annoy you.

You’re insured till the end date and can sort the best deal once everyone opens on Monday

I would get some firm quotes from elsewhere before you cancel. If your renewal wasn’t crazy, then you might struggle to match it this close. Check before burning your bridges.

Had similar a few times with insurance, not allowed to speak to a person under any circumstances, unless it’s to not auto renew. Then suddenly that’s the only thing you can’t do on their portal or hub or whatever is this year’s popular online term. All of a sudden you have to have access to the team.

With my house insurance last year I gave up as it was so hard to get through to stop the auto renew, I decided I wasn’t wasting anymore time on hold to save £45 a year switching. Mother fkers.

I would like to cancel my insurance because I've sold my car. I'm insured with Esure. The only way you can contact them for this is using their "live chat" function. Problem is, you never get connected. I tried four times last week, at various times of day, and was on hold (or the live chat equivalent) for nearly 2 hours at one point, until I gave up.

And yes, I originally chose Esure because they were the cheapest; if they'd said "we're cheap because we employ too few staff, hence you can't contact us" then I'd only have myself to blame. But their marketing blurb doesn't, of course, say that.

Had the same trouble with e sure this week.
Found a cheaper quote and tried to cancel my autorenewal online.

They then direct you to chat where you have to log in (again) only to be told you have to call.

Called up and after 20 mins on hold spoke to a woman ( appeared to be based in South Africa) who then cancelled my autorenewal but said she couldn't currently update the system because it wasn't working..

Let's see what happens on the 26th. I will not be best pleased if they take out the renewal having given them six days to cancel.

TL/DR: esure systems are a shambles with nothing working
