Does anyone know of any bulk shredding type services for disposing of large numbers of bank statements etc??

Maybe I'm being excessively paranoid, but I've got a bin bag full of documents with my bank details, credit card numbers etc on them and not sure I want to just take them to the tip.

Shred-it do some, we used them at work when I closed my last office...

Otherwise pop to Robert Dyas, buy a manul one for a fiver and get your other half to do it whilst the soaps are on!

I followed a shred-it lorry down the motorway the other week. I had to laugh as it was spewing loose sheets of paper out the top.....

Would not touch the one that sounds like 'Shed it' as a Detective Superintedent caught the operators one day at Police HQ going through paperwork for disposal. If you do use one ensure that if it does contain confidential information then have someone watch them whilst they shred.

Bonfire is the easiest/cheapest option - do you have any outside space to do that? even if you only have enough room for a BBQ, that will be enough as paper burns quickly and thoroughly - just put it on a bit at a time to avoid loose, unburnt sheets being carried off in the updraft!

Make a multi-layer bonfire. Sticks and stuff at the bottom, then the paper, then more sticks on top. Air can get through the bottom to burn all the paper thoroughly, and the top layer holds down the loose sheets.

Spread the sheets out a bit because closely-stacked paper doesn't burn very well, and poke through the ashes afterwards because they can still be read until they're crumbled.

Much more fun than a shredder.

You can buy a mini shredder for about £30.00 which will work a treat - might be worth a try.

However, if you don't want to upset those afore mentioned, visually challenged, ladies in sensible shoes you can of course tear said documents into narrow strips and put them in your compost bin? compost heap.
