Calling all 2016 AM Owners
Discussion
Just come back from another 3 week jaunt around Europe down to Tuscany using my in car Garmin satnav. Everything was perfect until I disembarked from the shuttle back into the UK. Within minutes driving down the M20 my satnav went blank and then started to go haywire. I immediately pulled off to get fuel thinking once I switched the engine off it would reset itself,. However, no joy it wouldn't even close the pop up lid. I then carried on my journey using the nav button to get the satnav screen back, however, this would last for a few seconds and it continued to go haywire.
I then phoned James up at DAE to be told there has been a software failure and it's not able to connect with satellites and there has been a bulletin from AM to the dealers with the new updates (cost £133) However, speaking to James at DAE he hadn't come across the lid not closing once the engine is switched off which was really puzzling having driven best pat of 3000 miles with no glitches at all, could it be Europe that use different satellites which the satnav has no problem connecting to. Anyway this didn't solve the problem of the lid not closing even when the engine was turned off. This got me thinking whilst being stuck on the M25 (as you do) given it was a software problem if I deleted my satnav journey which I had programmed for my travel back home, would it solve the problem of the lid not closing Sure enough all the problems seemed to go away and my lid would now close as normal Finally, can I stress this problem is only for all models built during 2016. Hope this can help all you 2016 AM owners

Just to put the record straight, I spoke to JCT600 this morning. AM are not doing this software update as a recall in fact they are charging over £200 for this update at this dealership!!!! When I quoted what I read on social media, the lady I was speaking immediately recognised who this was and said there was a back story to reason why there was no charge, which obviously she wouldn't go into for privacy reasons. Having said that, this is a clear fault of the software and I firmly believe AM should have instigated it as a recall not be charging their customers over £200!!! I am afraid this is the new regime at AM all owners now have put up with these days.

A Recall is for safety related issues and a legal obligation driven and overseen by VOSA.This is not safety related
A Campaign is a goodwill gesture, completely voluntary on the part of the manufacturer.
2016 cars are unlikely to be covered under any car makers goodwill cover.
On what grounds do you think AML should update your satnav software FOC?

If it’s anything like the fault that is affecting numerous cars of this era (AMI2), it’s more than just sat nav affected. It’s all things that need the central screen to control. It’s clearly a design flaw which I don’t think is acceptable and should be rectified by AM at minimal cost. This is not safety related
