Hi all.
I am trying to get my head around the shared parental leave and shared parental pay.

I understand wife has compulsory 2 weeks off.
Then she plans a further 4 weeks maternity leave.

I plan for 2 weeks paternity at the same time as her 2 weeks maternity.

Then she will give me all remaining maternity leave, which I can take as Shared Parental Leave and pay.

I dont plan back to work at the end.

Has some kind person done this, and can advise?

Yep, I shared my wife’s maternity leave. She had 6 months, I had 6. Her maternity scheme was quite good as her place topped up the statutory payment to reflect 90% of salary

My place didn’t so I ended up with statutory payment only

From memory it was around £150 pw, subject to normal deductions, in my case health insurance, company car, fuel card, tax and insurance.

If you get anything over and above SMP and you don't return to work I believe you have to repay some or all of the extra amount (depending on what's in your contract)

If you intend to go through with it I would strongly suggest confirming what you're entitled to with HR.

As above, check with your HR department what your options are. You might find that all you need to do is hand in your notice while on SPL.

The process of shared parental leave is a few forms, most important of which is your partner signing over her leave to you.

I just had 8 weeks with SPP, on my first day back I handed in my notice. Felt liberating. Albeit I'm starting a new job, so not quite the same situation.

Thanks all
Really appreciate!

Just to clear up, her will take 2 weeks compulsory, then 4 weeks maternity.
Her will transfer all the remaining maternity to me, to take after my 2 weeks paternity.

I will go back to work for a week, then book all my accrued holidays.

During my holidays I will give my months notice.

Well, thats the plan on our side
