Hi guys,

I've had my Noble for a couple months, I just want to know what type of fuel you guys are running your noble's on? Leaded or Unleaded? We obviously all bought from the same salesman, and he told me to use leaded. Did he say the same to you?

Done close on 12,000 miles the last 11 months on my M400 and only use leaded fuel.

hi cornel, where you situated? we should have a track day sometime with all the SA noble owners

anyway, back to the original topic, using leaded fuel, A) it will toast the catalytic converters on the car B) damage made some of the seals?

have you queried to neville or boeta about that? i'm just a little concerned and i wanna make double sure, thanks for your response

You still have leaded!

Leaded was outlawed in Europe around 5 years ago. There is stuff called "LRP" which has platinum in it rather than lead to protect the valve seats, but all engines made in the last 10+ years have had the hardend valve seats to cope with unleaded fuel.

As for what we run it on here, 95 RON unleaded is the recommended, although plenty of us (me included) use Shell Optimax which is 98RON (does bugger all to the performance but removes any chance of pre-detonation and Optimax has quite a few detergents to keep everything shiny and clean inside)

Leaded (or LRP) will kill a Cat converter dead after about a tankful, so if you have cats fitted then they will be damaged beyond repair.

Of course leaded over there many not actually mean leaded???

Hi Mike

Ian in CPT here - been using 97 leaded for the past 10 months. Still planning to take out the filler restrictor and have it lathe'd to take the 97 spout.

Bit of a bugger, but it forces me to fill it myself.

Cheers

95RON unleaded fuel is what all Nobles run on; this is what their engines are mapped to receive.

Please do not use leaded fuel.

Using a rating in excess of 95RON unleaded is fine, but will make no difference to the car's performance (although I have it on good authority that Optimax does make approx. 1 per cent difference).

No catalytic converters on SA Nobles. I'm in Pretoria and up here we have either 93 octane leaded or un-leaded. We do not have 95RON up here.....4500 feet above sea level, only available at the coast. My car was tuned by 2 gentlemen from Roush on a dyno with 93 octane leaded fuel. Quality of SA fuel in general rubbish according to a number of people I spoke to.

God - it sounds like Bulgaria!

95RON is a rare sight there, 88 is the norm

I don't think they know what a speed camera is in Bulgaria - there was some debate in 2004 about them buying a few 'second hand' ones but not heard anything since.

And I bet you can get Corsa's there

hi simon! i think you need to find out more what's happening down here with the Nobles, it seems all the South african buyers are using leaded as instructed by their dealers on their cars purely because we don't have any higher than 93 octane(mostly 91 octane) up here at this altitude.

@cornel: are you 100% sure SA nobles don't have CATS on them?

Hope this is not a silly question.

But, why don't the UK cars get mapped to 97RON when it is available at 99% of petrol stations now?

Surely this would be to simplest way possible of getting a few extra bhp for free!

Different mapping and more boost would get more on 95 anyway. You've got to go for the lowest common fuel really. Now, an ecu with knock sensors and a learning function...

Hi Mike

Buddy here also in SA. Definitely no cats on our cars.

I have also been using either 93 or 102 leaded. From 1 January next year we will no longer get any leaded. The good news is we will get 95 on the Reef.

You don't need cats to run unleaded, just leaded will kill a cat stone dead.

Just run your car on unleaded with the same or better RON rating that you currently do and you'll be fine.

No probs - we aren't all as sad as some of us bods who do nothing but work out how the dam things work!

Just driving it sounds like a good plan to me
