Need help from South African owners
Discussion
hi cornel, where you situated? we should have a track day sometime with all the SA noble owners
anyway, back to the original topic, using leaded fuel, A) it will toast the catalytic converters on the car B) damage made some of the seals?
have you queried to neville or boeta about that? i'm just a little concerned and i wanna make double sure, thanks for your response

You still have leaded!
Leaded was outlawed in Europe around 5 years ago. There is stuff called "LRP" which has platinum in it rather than lead to protect the valve seats, but all engines made in the last 10+ years have had the hardend valve seats to cope with unleaded fuel.
As for what we run it on here, 95 RON unleaded is the recommended, although plenty of us (me included) use Shell Optimax which is 98RON (does bugger all to the performance but removes any chance of pre-detonation and Optimax has quite a few detergents to keep everything shiny and clean inside)
Leaded (or LRP) will kill a Cat converter dead after about a tankful, so if you have cats fitted then they will be damaged beyond repair.
Of course leaded over there many not actually mean leaded???

95RON unleaded fuel is what all Nobles run on; this is what their engines are mapped to receive.
Please do not use leaded fuel.
Using a rating in excess of 95RON unleaded is fine, but will make no difference to the car's performance (although I have it on good authority that Optimax does make approx. 1 per cent difference).

No catalytic converters on SA Nobles. I'm in Pretoria and up here we have either 93 octane leaded or un-leaded. We do not have 95RON up here.....4500 feet above sea level, only available at the coast. My car was tuned by 2 gentlemen from Roush on a dyno with 93 octane leaded fuel. Quality of SA fuel in general rubbish according to a number of people I spoke to.

hi simon! i think you need to find out more what's happening down here with the Nobles, it seems all the South african buyers are using leaded as instructed by their dealers on their cars purely because we don't have any higher than 93 octane(mostly 91 octane) up here at this altitude.
@cornel: are you 100% sure SA nobles don't have CATS on them?

[quote]You don't need cats to run unleaded, just leaded will kill a cat stone dead.
Just run your car on unleaded with the same or better RON rating that you currently do and you'll be fine.

lol, i feel like such an ass
but i'm not a true motor head, i just buy the car and drive it, at least i'm learning new stuff everyday, thanks J
