I do smell a burning odor :smokin: when using second came on my 3000 mls 111R.
At the beginning I was thinking it was running in fact but now I wonder if I am the only one??
Thanks :driving:

Have you checked your pants? I get funny smells from passengers when I get on to second cam.

My clutch smells when I drop down from 4th to third approching a fast corner say - around 4000 revs - not sure if this is normal either.

I think I have experienced that a few times. More like a hot smell than an actual burning smell but all temps and fluid levels seems fine so I just put it down to the car still being quite new. I'm coming up to 7000 miles now and nothing has blown up yet despite frequent use of the second cam, so I am just assuming it is OK!

Glad I'm not the only one - always smells like something has burnt out when nailing the R from a standing start! I try not to think about it too much! It's a mixture of tyre rubber and the clutch - occasionally smell the tyres when on 2nd cam out of a tight corner

Chris, have you found the car to be any quicker now it's covered a few miles?

Had it twice when I've fubared an upchange (thankfully to too high a gear rather than too low). Not noticed it during normal thrashing sessions. Now on 6k miles and a couple of trackdays.

Thank you for the replies. As other mentionned it is more freqeuent during first use of 2nd came than after a full hour of trash. I was not so much concerned but now it is even better.
Again about second came, reading the posts about the small margin between top RPM and failure, do you guys wait for the red light (as me so far) or change a few 100 RPM before expected to just avoid the red flash??

Perhaps a little bit - seems a fraction more willing to rev. Difficult to know whether it is me imagining it though

Once warmed up properly and when "making progress" I happily use all of the red light zone, though I do try and avoid hitting the rev limiter hard as that always feels a bit unpleasant in any car I think.

What Chris says.

I'm usually too focussed on the road to notice the light. Unlike the K series cars find it isn't so easy to gauge by ear and with the engine just getting into its stride in that narrow band have hit the limiter far more on this car than the others.

I believe I never reach the rev limiter thankfully. What do you feel if you reach it in the elise? Is there a huge feel of lock as I had once in my esprit (at 7000)?

Lack of power and staccato tadada noise.
