When I got home last night I noticed this loud sound coming from the front right of the engine bay. Doesn’t seem to vary with revs as far as I could tell and seems to stay constant.

The first video is a sound I recorded in the same sort of area that comes and goes back in September but had since conveniently forgotten until now. May or may not be linked-

As the car was last night-

Only noticed when I was parking up as there had been no obvious signs anything was wrong when driving. Will be taking it to the garage in the near future but I'll be curious to see if it sounds the same when starting the car from cold.

Any obvious suspects?

Last time I heard similar was a ring spanner that had been left on the crank pulley bolt of a Morris Minor.smile

Certainly sounds rotational like a pulley bearing but the noise would change with increasing revs. Radiator cooling fan(s)?

If possible drop belts off and run and see if noise disappears will point you in right direction.

Dropped it off at the garage last night, definitely didn't vary with revs and it did it straight away from cold.

Looks like it's the supercharger coolant pump part number C2C1314.

Going to be a bumper off job from the sounds of it, is there anything else that could/should be done while the bumper is off?

It's a good time to change your xenon burners as the headlights will be out, and the air filters because the wheel arch liners will be out to get to the airboxes. Maybe take the MAFs out and give them a clean too.

It's really easy to get the bumper off though, I'll be doing it to mine on Sunday to change a parking sensor.

I actually have one of those pumps in the shed, it was £120 from Maltings 4x4 store for an OE Pieburg so I bought it ready for when I inevitably need one - they used the same pump on pretty much everything they ever made with a supercharger. Never heard one make that noise before!

A Google suggests the early cars headlights can be removed without needing the bumper off. Are you meaning the xenon bulb here? Is there likely to be a noticeable difference replacing these?

Air filters were changed recently already.

I sourced the pump from their ebay page but it was the more expensive JLR one, part number didn't end in the 'G' that has-

I've found if it has the original xenon bulbs then replacing them will make them much brighter, but they're not cheap especially if you get upgraded bulbs.

I think the - G just means it's the OE one not a JLR one, but the last JLR one I bought was a pieburg anyway!
