I've started binge watching this on the Disney channel. I'd forgotten how good it was, it stands the test of time as well, I think.

That, and Hill Street Blues, were superb. NYPD Blue scripts were sometimes almost Shakespearian.

Veronica Hamel was easy on the eyes...

And, no, thanks to the "guess who has aged" thread, I'm not going to search to see if she's still alive!

I've got past series 5 of NYPD Blue and boy did it go downhill. It's all about their anxt, getting in touch with their feelings, all touchy feely, conspiratorial glances, concerned looks, even with some of the bad guys. Series 7 is pretty bad, as they seem to turn into social workers. Some of the acting is pretty dodgy as well (Detective Kirkendall with her constantly looking reflectively to one side. Disappointing

An absolutely brilliant series. Mainly great acting performances from quite a lot of actors who went on to do better things in both TV and films. Dennis Franz was particularly good in my opinion.

I agree, everything revolved around Franz. As you say, interesting to see so many actors who went on to better things. I've seen at least four who went on to appear as in Deadwood, including the chaps who played Woo, Dan Dority, Charlie Utter and Elsworth.
