I am in Arizona this week and rented a car from Avis until my own cars are recommissioned and back on the road. I had originally booked some mundane Chevy but was happy when they upgraded me to a brand new Genesis G70 with only 200 miles on it.( not Infiniti as I stupidly posted earliersmile

It is quite a good-looking car and has been getting very good reviews. My impressions are as follows:

Interior:. Surprisingly high quality and the seats are very good indeed. They do not have all of the adjustability of the Porsche 18-way seats but there is enough and they work very well. One issue is that here is not a really good way to grab the door if it is full extended as it is too far awaysmile
The dash is a bit of a mess to my eyes ( I hate those screens than are plonked in top of the dash) but controls work very well, Nav is fairly intuitive, sound system good, lights good and very quiet unless you rev it hard when the four cylinder though quite lively is a bit buzzy. Plenty quick for a normal road car though.

Boot is shallow and not that roomy.

Brakes are good but I found the steering to be lifeless and provides less feedback than (say a BMW) and overall I did not warm to this. However, roadholding is predictable. I would say a very competent car and given its price point would provide excellent value for money.Compared to the dross I usually rent it is hugely better than anything from Chevy or the like.

Relative to what it would cost to get a comparable level of fit and finish in German car, this does seem to me to be a bargain and I expect to see the Korean manufacturers continue to develop compelling products.

Are you sure it’s a G70 OP? There’s usually a badge or something on the boot(trunk?).

Yes, part of Hyundai.
It is to Hyundai/Kia as Lexus is to Toyota.
Basically a Kia Stinger in disguise, but in the UK we only get the crappy 2 litre 4 pot.
Comparison here - they even got the names right wink -

Bloke near me has the Genesis SUV version (whatever that is smile) and it looks very smart. Interior looks pretty luxurious.

Long term depreciation would be my concern and whether Hyundai would continue with it in the U.K.despite low sales much like Infiniti.

The range looks quite interesting and I’d guess the investment in dealers (ie none as far as I can tell!) might mean they hang around longer than Infiniti. Very few on autotrader so far which doesn’t bode well.
The G70 Shooting Brake would be a good Stinger replacement but the 4 cylinder engines we get don’t appeal. Same as recent Volvo stuff - great cars but unappealing power.

I saw the G70 shooting brake at Goodwood and thought that looks nice then saw the engine lineup and walked off. Such a shame someone’s made the decision to not equip them with some power.
