Sorn for vehicle garaged in Spain (for 1 month)

Hello all

I'm currently in the process of moving my family from Spain to the UK. I've purchased vehicle in the UK and have driven down to bring our things to the UK. Unfortunately my partner has been delayed by several months and we cannot move on schedule. My car currently has 3 months European insurance but we are going to go over by 1 month.

I have two choices:

I could buy temporary insurance for the month and a half extra which would be around 500 quid.

Or

I could put my car in my relatives private Spanish garage and declare my vehicle SORN for the month and a half. When complete I could reinsure and un-SORN the car online, buy temp insurance for the drive back (if needed), and then continue life in the UK.

The difference in cost is the 500 in temporary insurance - a significant amout. If I had to cancel my insurance I could potentially save a bit more.

I understand that the rules are fuzzy around this (from reading lots of forums). Why I think this could be ok is because the vehicle would not be on the Spanish roads wile SORNed, it would always be insured when driving, and the car would be safe while SORNed in the garage.

I hope this hasn't been asked before (though I did search The Forum). I sincerely hope you can give me some good advice here!
