No prior warning of impending motor junction closure
Discussion
Hoping that someone will read this and help see sense.
After about 10.00pm, there are occasional closures of sections of the M62 for roadworks. Yes, could probably find when, where some place, but I don't where and don't check.
But...there is no pattern. No consistency.
On Monday I was taking A627M to join M62 East at Junction 20. No warning signs on the A627M to say J20 shut. You just find out when you get there. If given an earlier sign, would not have to take a significant detour. This is next to the area in Manchester where they want to charge for clean air zone, but stuff like this creates more miles to be done than necessary.
Tonight, get on M62 at J20 to travel to J22. J22 shut though! When do they tell you? AFTER passing J21! From then on, it must be an extra 14 miles to go to the next junction and double back on A and B roads.
It's rubbish!

It’s not the easiest thing to do, deciphering how it’s all going to affect you, for how long etc, but in my part of rural Suffolk with seemingly endless roadworks on the country roads, it saves a lot of frayed tempers.

Manchester Clean Air Zone isn't operating yet. London ULEZ one is and if you follow signed diversions into it, the cameras are supposed to be turned off.
Correct. My point is that whilst there is anti-pollution sentiment and future intention to charge motorists for burning fossil fuels - mismanagement of motorway closures means that motorists can be forced into taking a long way round thus causing more pollution, than if they had been fair and correct warning, and can plan an alternative that was a better route.
However manages motorway closures and signage (or lack of) for the M62 - needs to be made aware.
I remember coming out of Bradford after a curry one night onto M62 to head back to Leeds and then out to Harrogate.
I ended up going all along under M62 through Birstall and all those places at around 11pm.
Lovely stuff. Not.
No idea it was happening either, despite having driven in that way five hours earlier.
Is it an M62 thing?

I think it may be.
M62 is a crucial motorway (aren't they all?), the shortest path from A to B. Its bad when there is an accident. It is excruciating when it is closed for maintenance.
I understand maintenance is a requirement, and they try and do it at the quietest times - would be good though if they tell you what is happening in time to make a decision to either not use it, find another route, or tough it out. It is taking the proverbial then when you get on, carry on 10 miles, then find the next junction, the one you want, is closed and you have to make a 14 mile detour! Grrrrrrr.
