Average wage income (so no supercars/60k SUV), single chap, What would you expect to see them driving when they are 20,30,40,50,60,old?

i have a general rule i'm trying to stick to... the car i drive should have an engine size in litres of my age divided by 10, and a horsepower output of my age, multiplied by 10 ish

so, a 20 year old - some 2 litre turbo hatchback with about 200bhp - ford fiesta ST
30 year old - 3 litre coupe, with about 300bhp - Nissan 350z
40 year old - 4 litre, 400bhp - BMW 540i, BMW 640d?
50 year old - 5 litres, 500bhp - Jaguar XFR, Mercedes C63
60 year old - 6 litres, 600bhp - Aston Martin DB9, Bentley of some description maybe?

An X300 XJ and a Morgan Three Wheeler is definitely a garage that should be driven by an old chap in their 60s, not someone who is 31. whistle

I think a couple of those miss the average wage rule

I'm going to go with:

20 - something cheap to run/insure so Corsa or similar
30 - getting into career proper so maybe BMW 3/4 series
40 - boring job but got funds so want something a litle fun so Audi S-something, VW something-R, BMW M-something
50 - midlife crisis o'clock: 911, small Aston etc.
60 - seen and done it all now, some sort of Merc, Volvo barge.

Speaking personally, at 61 I seem to have settled on a Morgan Three Wheeler and a nice sensible FK8 Civic Type R.

What are we defining as an average wage income as surely depending on location, sector and other outgoings and requirements changes the answer hugely?

An average chap with an average wage? Something like this I guess…..

20 - Electric MG of some description.
30 - Toyota RAV 4 Hybrid. Or one of the newer Kia’s. Keep it sensible and average.
40 - Tesla of course, Model 3 if struggling to bin his Mr Average persona, a Model Y if he is escaping mediocrity and if he’s done ok and lives in the countryside he could treat himself to a Cybertruck!
50 - A Honda Jazz, electric again. When Mr Average has reached a certain age, it should be reflected in his mode of transport. And a road bicycle, made of carbon with a bit of bling.
60 - Old school fast Ford, petrol and very brightly coloured (orange Ford Focus RS). A final swan song if you like. Sadly, he will probably crash it…..
Old - A taxi should suffice Mr Average, although he could hire a car on the odd occasion…… Something like an old school Land Rover Defender.

My history has mainly been warm and hot hatches all made by SEAT or VW, I purchased a 981 Cayman S from Porsche Silverstone at 28 but was told by the sales manager "that I'm too young for the car" and his average customer for that car would be 40+
