Maybe it' s just my age or my background but I just don't get this "music" that's basically just someone shouting. I can't even tell what they're saying so how am I supposed to know if the words are some work of lyrical genius?

I can't stand (c)rap, I always mute it whenever it's on TV.

Never really watched this before apart from short snatches while passing.
Some of the singers are OK, but sometimes I wonder what the "Judges" see in them and not others.
There was a lady on Saturday, sounded good, no selected yet there was a person on last, sounded like there was so much echo/reverb/tremelo on his voice.
Then there was the guy who worked with a beat box.......

Both The Voice and X Factor consistently have singers who blow me away but none of the panel are impressed, yet others who are distinctly unimpressive to me and the judges all rave about them. I can only surmise that the sound production is optimised for the studio and TV watchers hear good singers sounding poor and poor singers sounding good as a result. It's like we're not hearing what the judges hear.
