Got caught the other day in the works van by a red light and speeding camera.

st happens and i understand that.

Issue i have is they sent the ticket direct to me , i am the driver and not the keeper. it took 4 days so not enough time for them to have sent to the company and then back and then to me.

How do they know i was driving ?? have any rules been broken by not sending to the registered keeper ??

Is this not a case of:

1. NIP goes to the registered keeper

2. Registered keeper informs them that you were the driver and gives them your details

3. NIP comes to you.

?

It seems a little quick for it to all happen in four days.

Four days is good going but my wife got caught in same way, I’m the RK of her car and we got the paperwork pretty much by return of post for each step.

If it’s ‘your’ van then you are the keeper. It has nothing to do with ownership.

Some Safety Camera partnerships now allow you to nominate drivers online so it’s possible but as you say it’s still quite quick.

The OP has stated that it's a works van. Therefore he's not the registered keeper.

What have you been done for then? The red light or the speeding?

You can't get out of it. You were the driver.

I’m sure I was caught on the 1st of October so five weeks today. A guy stood at the rear of a car with a camera but not heard nothing. Thought I would have by now even with it being a leased van.
Anyone heard of this way of catching speeding? A plain car, tailgate open, guy in hi viz stood behind a camera on a tripod. Unless it was a random guy hgv spotting etc.

Sounds more like the DVLA doing roadside checks.

Should go to address on V5. If this is you then it's come direct.

Could check if work nominated you? Was this NIP for red & speeding on same letter, two in same envelope or just for speed/light?

Depends on their efficiency. They have to send an NIP to the registered keeper (leasing co) within 14 days but then the leasing company have to nominate the driver within 28 days. Police then send you a notice to admit it and you get the fine and points.

They are usually dressed in Police garb though.

I believe if they use 1st class to V5 address it must not be delivered late with witness/s to rebut presumption of delivery in actual court. Thanking PH member who challenged Humberside police setting case history on winning.

And just for my education, Is the notice to admit it another/cleverly disguised 172 request to an "any other person" as specified in 172 legislation where you have less stricter criteria than original 172 recipient and must simply "try your best"?

Neither of these is necessarily correct.

The OP has stated that he is not the keeper, in the title and in the OP.

Registered in my name but when I was caught speeding by a camera flash on a Sunday night the letter arrived on Tuesday morning. I completed all the stuff online. So four days is fast but not impossible I would say if it went to the company and they completed the nomination same day.

First time I have seen a post where the OP asks if the paperwork came 'too soon'.

hehe
