The auxiliary drive belt on my son's 1.25 Fiesta (2011) has start squealing occasionally on start up. Reading in the Haynes manual and looking under the bonnet, there is no tensioner fitted to these.
How crap is that - stinks of penny pinching and another example of modern cars becoming a throw away item to me! Anyway - minor rant over.
Apparently the only way to replace these is to cut the old belt to remove, the new belt has to be put on using plastic tools supplied with the new belt. Has anyone done this? I'm a little hesitant to cut the old belt as a way of removal.
It also looks a little tight for fitting a new belt (and this from someone who plays with old mini's!).
Thanks all.

I think it's a stretch belt on these... buy genuine Ford if you don't want further issues!

Loosen the mounting bolts on the alternator and pivot it away from the engine to release the tension on the belt, fit the new belt then retighten the bolts, tighten them evenly to avoid stripping the threads!
Oh, and possibly a useless fact for you, the engine is actually a zetec despite what Ford claim!
