Good evening all.

A few years ago we had a letter and a picture of me “parked” in a residential car park, but I was actually doing a 3 point turn as the wife had pipped into the chemist to get a prescription. The car actually never stopped and I saw the sneaky woman take a picture but thought nothing further of it. I ignored all the letters and eventually contact stopped.

A couple of months ago one of our daughters had a bowling party at Stevenage leisure park. We found two empty spaces next to each other at the end of a row and at the end is a big bush. The wife parked normally the second closest to the bush, as I had our youngest and a car seat I waited until the wife’s car was de occupied and squeezed in tight to her car so I could get him out. The bush was unkept and restricted space.

After receiving a few letters in the post, we have now received a letter that is in the pictures.

Does anyone know what I should do next. Is it time to pay up and forget about it. Any help appreciated.

The letters are in the wife’s name but I was driving that car if that helps.

Thank you all.

Nice of them to include a pack of Love Hearts with it.

Anecdotally a private parking enforcement company threatened to take my sister in the court, right up until the point she was going to appear in court they dropped the case.

General concensus is they will take x % of these past the usual letters. Whether you have the nerve to go that far is up to you.

I'm still trying to work out two things.

How you do a three-point-turn without stopping

and

What an unkempt bush has to do with the story

I assumed he's maybe been outside the allocated bay due to said bush.

Correct. Wheels were over the solid line.

The bush I answered below. The 3 point turn I didn’t stop. I literally reversed into a bay nearest the entrance / exit to pull back out and a woman who I assume was from the parking company snapped me. But i never clocked on.

I'm sure my sister paid a nominal fee for someone to contest the ticket after a while as she thought she was in the right. Didn't do any good

The old advice of ignore and file in the bin isn't valid anymore as the company can if they choose to raise a civil claim and believe your credit rating can be affected if the case isn't found in your favour. It's probably best to engage with then and contest rather than ignore.

I do sympathise as the fines are imo disproportionate to any loss incurred by the land owner.

Was the penalty charge for the “3 point turn” or for parking outside the white line?

As I was the driver is it best to get the wife to reply stating she was not the driver of the car at the time. I was always told not to reply until an official letter arrives. Thus this post I started.

The 3 point turn was a few years ago. I was just explaining I had ignored that event and it’s why I did this one. The reason is wheels over the solid white line. By mm’s I should add.

Post up on pepipoo (spelling?) and you'll get a better response.

First step would be to request copies of all prior correspondence sent (unless you kept it?) you'll find the majority don't comply with the appropriate legislation. If the driver wasn't the owner that's the easiest get-out as the registered keeper is not automatically liable...

You've confused everyone with your tale about being snapped years ago & ignoring it - it's not relevant so don't mention it. Go over to Pepipoo where there is lots of information & help but don't expect them to write the letters for you. You need to do the work.

If the OP could cut the superfluous parts of his story telling it might help people decipher what the pertinent issue is. 3 point turn, a bush and many years have confused many, before love hearts and a wrongly flipped photo even enter the fray hehe

I'm just confused as to why you took 2 cars to the bowling party?

Presumably because there were more people than would fit in one, or they were coming from or going to different destinations after.

I’m not sure why you think it’s relevant?

You are wasting your time requesting any previous correspondence and definitely do not ignore.

The company have filed an MCOL (money claim on line) this is what used to be known as the Small claims court.

You need to acknowledge receipt and submit your defence.

You will then either

Appear in person to state your case and a magistrate will decide whether you committed the offence(this can be done in your absence)

Or

On receipt of your evidence the company bringing the case may withdraw it (highly unlikely)

It's now a formal matter and needs to be dealt with.
