Just fallen head over heels over a non cycling bollard placed smack bang in the middle of an unlit footpath (nearest street lamp defective). Now nursing a nasty graze on my forehead and a gravel rash on my hand, plus scratched my glasses. Any ideas who I should report this too…presumably the local council tomorrow morning.

Before the inevitable responses of "Specsavers" can I just enquire as to what an 'anti-cycling bollard' looks like?

The best glasses in the world don’t magically light up a totally unlit hazard…a three foot high bollard in the middle of the footpath supposed to stop cyclists from going too fast presumably.

Yes, report it to the local council, probably their responsibility.

Also - get a photograph of the offending bollard, plus your injuries. No evidence, and you will fall flat on your face. (sorry, could not resist).

Councils are always dealing with people tripping up on broken pavements. There is a regulation depth of trip hazard with pavements, that allows an injured person to claim. In your case, sounds like they have really messed up placing a hazard like that.

Hope you are OK.

Oh yes, I think I know the type, mini metal bollard things, my friend put shoulder out of joint crashing into one. (was put right in the middle of the track for some bizarre reason he explained.)

Thanks for your concern…bit shaken up to be honest…keep finding more places I’ve cut or grazed. Only just recovering from a knee injury earlier in the year..months of gentle rehab and I then this…just hoping it doesn’t swell up again.

Seems to be an effective anti-walking bollard.

You have such a good case against whoever is accountable. You could well take it to a solicitor to settle out of court. May pay for your Christmas!

Still - all said and done, I would rather not have the injuries in the first place. Getting your specs sorted out is also an expense that you could put in a claim. Keep track of all calls and other communications from now on, and build your case.

You walked into something, in the dark.

And now, you're looking for someone to blame?

What a wetbag.

exactly, que the compo face in the paper, get a grip op, your mistake, own it.
No wander every body's council tax is always going up, if people think this way, sometimes an accident is just that, makes me sick, people jumping to blame others.
Ever walked down a country lane in the dark?

I've found that the easiest and most successful way to do this kind of thing is to report it to "fixmystreet.com"

They identify where it should be reported to and send it on for you.

Not much help but years ago when I was at Uni I came out of a pub into the unlit car park and managed to find a groin high “parking bollard” with my … er … groin. Painful mistake but very entertaining for my mates!

Bit unnecessary. The OP hasn't suggested he was thinking of claiming.

They want to report it for what... so the Council can put a Polaroid on the tearoom noticeboard?

Perhaps action like a light! Though I now understand why people use phone torch's when walking on evening.

Very unpleasant responses and only half way down page one. Sadly not surprising. What is wrong with you guys?

The council have a responsibility not to place unlit obstacles on footpaths. We pay them for stuff like this. They'll fine your ass the moment you put a wheel in a bus lane or leave you bins out the road, or fail to illuminate a skip outside your house.

Unlucky OP. Get well soon.

Maybe so it's made more visible, or lit to prevent someone else hitting it and injuring themselves worse. OP hasn't once mentioned claiming.

I'll freely admit to not having a clue about what the OP is describing, but doesn't the term 'Anti-cycling Bollard' suggest that he shouldn't have been cycling on the footpath?
