Printers I've had in the past needed to be used constantly to stop the ink drying out and needing a wasteful 'head cleaning' session. Anyone know of one that's a better bet for more occasional use while still being capable of producing a good print?

If it's only an occasional requirement could you use a print service? Upload the picture to a website & they post you the print.

If it is only occasional use, why not get a lab to do it? I have an old Canon inkjet that works well with good results, but is quite costly on ink per print. However I only use it as a last resort if I need a print right now - I get everything printed by a lab and delivered if I can. Order before 2pm I think and the prints come next day.

Unless you're prepared to print something regularly to keep the nozzles clear either online or supermarket (for example) is going to be more cost effective.

For example, Boots will do a 10x8 for £4.00, SnappySnaps an A4 Photo Poster is just £3.49.

Just discovered Asda, Boots etc is actually a shopfront for Max Spielman .... there's a blast from the past smile

I always suffered problems with dried up ink jets.
A few years ago I bought a cheap B&W laser printer (sub £50), it never fails.
Any colour picture printing we just use the 'freeprints' app via out phones, 45 prints free per month, just pay the postage.

I've had one of these for years. The ink just lasts forever. The heads can still dry up, so I do a full colour page print once a week to keep it clear.

It's a pity that inkjets don't have the ability to schedule a test page say once a week then the heads wouldn't dry out & they wouldn't have such a bad reputation. I binned mine & bought a laser printer.

Not built into the printer but easy to achieve

I have an a3 Canon IP8750 photoprinter, doesn't seem to suffer from the old problem of heads/inks drying out. If you don't buy the high capacity cartridges then they are really cheap. Only problem is it has 6 cartridges and any one going empty will stop it printing

I have an IP8700, which I purchased in 2017 and I think it is toast. I have tried all the cleaning operations but it doesn't want to play ball. Do you use Canon inks or alternatives?
