I once had a similar positive experience on a deserted motorway at 7AM on a Saturday
Police were on the hard shoulder of an 'on' slip road with an embankment so I only saw them from a short distance as I went past at somewhere around ban speed
I lifted off and accepted my fate however they didnt move and nothing appeared in the post
It helped balance some other experiences..........
OP good to see common sense prevail.
I was given a waggy finger many years ago by a passing Rover 3500 on the M1, I wasn't hanging around, although in those days (1980's) there was less traffic and through rose tinted glasses less aggression so getting a warning rather than a straight you're nicked wasn't unusual.

ks was an early morning run from my parents in Rotherham to Yarm where I lived, 90 miles covered in 1hr 1minute, I also passed a police car parked on the on ramp on the A168 near Topcliffe, speedo was showing 125mph, I just kept going!
Whilst I'm reminiscing about the good old days as an apprentice in the early 80's I used to regularly do a Friday afternoon blast home from Portsdown/Havant to nr Sheffield, only meaningful bit of non single carriageway in those days IIRC was when I joined the M1 off the A5 nr Daventry, A34 and A43 were most single carriageway, doing that 210 miles in 3hrs wasn't unusual.

Many years back on the M42 going North/East passed J3(?) at around 04:30 whilst well into triple digits.
Did the usual slip road mirror check only to see a set of headlights dim and them come back on as a parked vehicle fired up its engine.
Immediately hit the brakes hard to slow down to 70.
A relatively short distance later the Police Disco catches up, pulls in front and pops on the matrix -"Remember limit 70" or similar.
As an habitual speeder l ways think you get a lot of leeway if you show that you are concentrating on observation when pushing it.
Suitable told, probably didn't speed again until the M1.

Had similar in The Netherlands a couple of weeks ago (was driving from Spa to Amsterdam).
I had noticed the Motorway speed limit drops (equated KPH-MPH) from roughly 80mph to 60mph if the weather is a bit grim, but it wasn't raining & roads only mildly moist, so had the cruise set in my M5C at 80mph, so doing around 75mph in real terms.
Local plod van pulls alongside & gives me the thumbs up as i assume he was admiring the motor, so i replied with the same gesture. He then flicked his siren on & gestured with his left arm the slow down wave, to which i lowered my speed & gave him a second thumbs up.
We both merrily continued on our journeys, with my speed reduced by a few mph for the rest of the drive into Amsterdam.

I got stopped at Chester le Street by a police car. He peeled off the motorway and I blasted past him on my GSXR 750. Unfortunately he just went up slip road behind me and pulled me over. He probably hadn’t enough to actually prove me speeding so he just told me to slow down.
That was a Saturday morning as I was going to visit my GF.
Good chap, that’ll learn me to watch my speed you’d think.
Nope, I got done for 91 on the A1 on the way home on Sunday evening.
I had similar on the M27 a few Xmas's (25th actually) ago. TVR Griff, glorious early morning, no traffic and 120 (ish) leptons BiB Volvo coming down the on ramp. I saw him, foot instantly of the accelerator he pulls alongside (I had slowed to about 70) Thumbs up from the BiB and off he went.
Had a similar experiernce commuting on the M3 one dark early morning about 15 years ago when I found an opportunity to make a bit of progress in lane 3. Police car in my lane someway behind flashed the front blue lights a couple of times (I assumed for my benefit) and as I used the brakes to bring the speed down a bit, moved to L1 and lit up the roof lights, etc and pulled over someone else.

The police woman was well fit and wanted me to ride with her in the T5 so I showed her how to drive it properly.

In the real world, I’ve had a few close shaves but only one ’hard stare’ after coasting down from 90-ish to 70 when I spotted them late in L1 hiding behind a couple of lorries.
I was actually pulled over once by a police man and woman in their 850 T5. Yep, no latitude for being sensible when traffic is quiet and conditions are good. The opposite also applies, with people driving like arses even below the speed limit. 35 in a 30, and 57 in a 50.

About 15 years ago I was with a group of guys in a van on the way home on Boxing Day morning after a night shift on the railway. M25 was shut due to an accident, and we were travelling far too fast (I wasn’t driving) down country roads to get round the closure. Suddenly a traffic pol Volvo appeared behind us, pulled up alongside and the passenger leaned out the window, shouted ‘f@@king slow down’ and booted it off again.
We all looked at each other, wondering why he hadn’t pulled us, then a couple of minutes later realised why as we found him stopped behind an Astra on its roof in a ditch.
Someone’s else’s misfortune was our good luck that morning.
