If a road was at 40mph, and was then reduced permanently to 30mph, should there be information signs to state the new limit?

If:
a) it’s in England, NI, or Scotland, and
b) there are street lamps 200yards or closer apart
Then: technically no 30 sign is needed.
But: if the speed limit has changed from 40, it would be prudent to have a 30 sign.

You’ll earn less money from the speeding tax with new 30 signs. Keep it vague and sneaky, and maximise revenues…

Indeed, I was had on one such road,.. was a DC in urban area with:

1, Trees concealing the lamp posts and previous repeater signage absence ahead.
2, At least 4 meters of verge and thick central row of trees dividing DC to right.
3. Full lane, Grass verge with trees centrally planted and footpath to left giving great visibility either side.

Was dropping a friend off, had been a long while since I had been on that road, which had been every single day for years before my absence, perfect conditions, only one coming along it with perfect day and view under what I thought was still the limit.

Result? Ambushed by Van man practically hiding behind only car (parked) far ahead, in a position speed van had never sat in before, cloaked by shadow from & the trees.

Not best pleased about it to this day.

The TSM says a sign advising of the limit change should be erected to inform drivers of the limit change and it mustn't remain for more than 6 months.

It happened locally here (Sourh Gloucestershire) recently on a road that was perfectly fine as 40mph for ages but is having a load of new builds dumped along it.

They seem to have just quietly snuck in, taken down the 40mph signs and repeaters then left it up to everyone to work it out. (Very few seem to have .)

In fact there was one or two 40mph signs that were missed on smaller residential streets leading onto the now 30mph road, not sure if they’ve sorted that yet.

I have to admit I’m very careful down there as I fully anticipate encountering some form of speed enforcement/cash extraction action - it would be easy pickings for them at the moment.
