Whats the ride quality like? All my SUV experiences are air suspension ones and I can't help thinking the X3 M40i/d would be a bit of a rough ride

I had an X3 M40i for 4 years from 2019 and loved it. The ride is excellent and I had mine with 21’s … far better ride than my old M240i and really well sorted. Not rough by any stretch. BMW really sorted it well and I have regretted selling it ever since it went.

I’ve had an X3 M40i since 2019 from new. When you want to be quick it’s quick, body control is good initially but a succession of tight corners leaves you more aware of the height of the car…. Then you realise just how much speed you are really carrying!

I’ve ordered a replacement for March delivery - X3 M40d. Went to diesel for three core reasons… firstly I’m doing longer trips for work for the next few years and 500 miles range would be nice to have again, secondly I now need to be able to tow and a diesel will do that better and finally the government is advising me not to, which is a stand out recommendation of the right course of action!

On my second X3M40d, the first was from early 2019 and then changed to the LCI in late 2021. Both excellent cars with more than enough power and fantastically accessible torque. Long runs 50mpg is easily achieved, comfy ride. We have just ordered an X5 50e as my wife’s employer is offering a salary sacrifice scheme and this gets us away from the pcp roulette wheel and the X5 actually works out considerably cheaper over the duration.
