Two AS.5 V12 engines with dual crankshafts rotating in opposite directions, 50 litres, 3100hp.

Used in the Macchi MC72. After engineer 'Rod' Banks had solved backfiring problems Francesco Agello set a new airspeed record for piston-powered seaplanes at 709.2 kilometres per hour (440.6 mph) on 23 October 1934, a record that still stands today.

An MC72 definitely goes in my fantasy hangar.

Oops!

They used ordinary hp in those days not bhp; not sure which kind is bigger.

Aero engines have always been quoted in HP rather than BHP.
