I stumbled upon this supposed dealer selling bargain price cars, out of interest I enquired about one, an Audi SQ5, they are selling at £4200 - yes £4200, but a bit of delving and I've found it advertised at a real dealer for over £30k.

How do I report this site, and to whom, would the Police be interested or to the Motor Ombudsmen.

Whatever you do, don’t look on Facebook marketplace, every other car advertised is fake!

biggrin

yes I did notice the company address was rather suburban.

I have notified the real dealer, they're taking up the case.

Still think I should report it to the Police though.

Noticed that, every one almost has "clean title" and some such nonsense wording and then priced about £4.5k for anything upto about 5yrs old. Do they really expect people to fall for it? There's literally dozens of people with the same/similar photographs too?

I think it's because eBay get money paid to them by scammers listing adverts

How does the scam work?
Are they just relying on you transferring money for a none available car that will never be delivered?

Looks that way, get you to pay a deposit at least, although I suspect this lot want full price up front, car then delivered -ha! to you within a week.

I guess they're hoping to con lots of people in a week's timeframe, then poof they're gone, only to rise like a phoenix, a short time later to do the same.

If they only get two or three people per week paying £2-4k it's still a nice little earner, but still keeping under the radar of raking in lots of money.

The vehicle has never been involved in any accidents; it passed all inspections and comes with a clean title. It is a non-smoking vehicle, has 2 keys, service history up to date, clear HPI, logbook present. The interior is clean and tidy, and the body has no scratches or dents. Our final price is £3100 limited time offer!

Since we are dealing mainly with transportation, please note that we don't schedule inspections/pick up at/from our location, but we sell the vehicle with a 5 days money back guarantee. I replied that I was interested and gave a random address, and received:

Then I said I wanted to see the car and received this at gone 11pm:

"Hi ,
Unfortunately we don't have the possibility to accommodate an inspection/pickup/cash sale because we have only a warehouse in the UK. All the sales must be completed online. By law you get the right to refund or exchange if the vehicle is not as described or fit for purpose ( Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations legislation.)

The only way to sell the vehicle is to ship it with a 5 days buy back guarantee. After we have confirmation of funds transferred, we will make delivery arrangements."

Look, maybe they are running an honest John certified business, give them a chance man.

This sort of bent crim will have some way of justifying they have done nothing wrong.

You could see if you can spook them by asking if they still have the gold BMW and the Black Merc at their warehouse.
